Yes! I'm so glad she didn't let him talk her (or himself for that matter) out of the simple act of comfort. Wheee! Really good chapter. =)

DOS -- another good chappie! Thanks!

To Devin and the Guest who replied:

I'm glad we all agree that Buffy was very much in the wrong for abusing Spike prior to all of this going down. Yes, she has stopped -- but I see this healing time as being at least in good measure due to the fact that their original relationship was entirely abusive. Up until now they have never been together in a good way.

And I've always thought that Buffy's choice to expose Spike to the trauma of being alone with his abuser despite his obvious desire NOT to go along with the plan reflected the fact that even if Buffy was finally saying the words "I love you", they didn't mean much when push came to shove. As guest has just observed, I can't imagine considering putting someone I loved into that sort of situation against their will -- no matter what other factors might weigh into this. Indeed, I wouldn't do it to any body. It seems to me to be unethical at best and possibly immoral to use a still emotionally and physically traumatized victim as BAIT to gather evidence. I don't believe any law enforcement agencies would have done what Buffy did -- even if it was the only way they could "make their case". And even if by some stretch of the imagination that they would do it, seems to me they would have waited until the victim was stronger; only done it if they were sure that the victim was completely willing; and put a HUGE amount of energy into considering every thing that might possibly go wrong with the plan. So as I see it Buffy does to Spike something which no ethical person should do to anybody -- let alone somebody she supposedly loved. (She needed to stop and figure out some other way of getting 'proof' about Xander -- there were lots of people involved -- surely they could have put their heads together to figure out something better. None of this is to say that her goal of not leaping to a premature conclusion about Xander was wrong -- but the end doesn't justify the means).

She seems to be making progress now. I'm delighted that she recognizes that she doesn't love Spike the way he loves her. I mean can any of us even remotely imagine Spike asking a victimized and traumatized Buffy to be the bait in that sort of plan -- no matter what the purpose of that plan was? I can't. (And I've tried.) Spike always puts Buffy first. The plan revealed that Buffy doesn't even register Spike's concerns, let alone give them the highest weight. So there's a gap that needs closing -- and they now seem to be on a track to start closing it.

To Devin,

I understand that Buffy wanted some proof that one of her best friends was doing something so horrible. But she should have been thinking about Spike first. She knew that Spike didn't want do it. She knew the only reason why he agree to the plan was because of her.

now, if that was somebody I loved. And I knew that they weren't comfortable with the plan. There is no way in heck that I will let go through it. That's just me.

Plus, Spike was treated so badly from Buffy before the whole Xander thing. So, this is a man or should I say vamp that has been abuse over some time.

I'm not saying that I don't feel for Buffy or that she is a bad person. I do feel for her. This a young girl who has a hard life. Has to put her life at risk all the time to protect the world. I feel for her. This is the part of the reason why I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So, thinking about what this young girl had to go through. Plus, Spike helps a lot too. Blush. Afterall, he is really the reason why I started watching.

Anyways, sorry for the long post. Take care.

And thank you dreamsofSpike for this great story. It is one of my favorites.

They are making baby steps there. Glad to see that Buffy is giving Spike what he needs. My heart hurts for them both. But things like this takes time. I"m sure they will get there. You give us our spuffy lovin in one of these chapters. Right, DreamsofSpike?

Great chapter, it's good to see them moving on into a sort of day-to-day relationship (which is where Buffy and Spike have me sold in the Spuffy support-- they're just good together); much sadness that Spike was triggered by the stupid movie-- he probably will always think about it, but after time he'll be able to live without that shadowing every action, hopefully-- it'll make him stronger.

About my review last chapter, I just wanted to clarify-- I was in no excusing or sympathizing with Buffy's actions in season 6-- I was feeling bad for her after she stopped, was there for Spike, and endured so much shit because she didn't want to destroy one of her best friends (or at least the person who used to be one of her best friends) without proof-- granted, we all know the plan backfired horribly, but I still feel bad for her. She was doing what she thought was right, and while she made a mistake, it's just not fair for everyone to blame her so completely for it-- none of them knew the extent of Xander's own hatred and evil, frankly.

So, I don't think I have a gender bias in the least about manners of abuse-- I agree that Buffy's actions towards Spike were no different than what they would have been if their genders were switched, and I do not condone any abuse in their relationship. And Spike deserves all the time in the world to heal-- but it's so damn frustrating! I want them to be together now! (Therein lies my impatience-- sorry if it seems like I'm criticizing, because I'm not, I'm just eager for the healing process to run its course-- even though obviously it'll take a great amount of time.)

Again-- loved the chapter, and this entire fic. I'm being impatient, and I'm sorry, DreamsofSpike, if my reviews were being insensitive to where you're taking this. But I totally get it-- just want the happy to be there. :(

So Buffy misses the ability to touch Spike so much she wasn't listening to him, huh? But she got better.
I like the thought of Angel being / acting as a mediator for them.
Good to see that they became friends now. This will make an even better relationship for them.
Another drawback after watching the film. I fear for quite some time Spike will be reminded on the event.
*sigh* Poor ones..
Till next chapter!

Poor things...the both of them. I ache for Spike, as well as for Buffy, because of the protective walls that Spike has built around him that are isolating him from what he really needs~ Buffy, his lifeline. Gotta open himself up to get that comfort, that balm to the soul that only she can provide. Great update!! I've missed this fic!

Great chapter, it's good to see that she's giving him time to heal, and that he's starting to let her in. They both needed that contact, and it's good to see that he/she is allowing themselves to take/give it. Excellent update, keep them coming! ;)

Spike left Buffy (even if he had his reasons). But no wonder then that Buffy is a bit insecure now. Especially when he doesn't want to touch him (for Buffy it's not easy to understand). Spike said he needs her? That gives me a bit more hope.
I don't think Buffy loved as deep as Spike yet. She got hurt before (left), that made her more careful in a way.
Looking forward to see how they'll make it work.

well said maggie. There is a bias on between women and men. like if you see the news and you see this beautiful women teacher who sleeps with her students. People seem like they are easier on her. But if it a man who sleeps with his student. People are like that sick pervert. Which I think it is wrong with the world. you should treat a man and a woman the same in those situations.

Love the story DoS.

Just a reply to Devin:

1. While it is true that Buffy's trauma can make us understand better why she was a total bitch, it doesn't excuse the behavior. I'm sure many wife-beaters have had plenty of bad things happen to them, which in their minds 'justifies' the lashing out against others.

2. Spike stayed out of an act of love. In particular, I think he was really afraid for Buffy. She was totally estranged from her friends. Everyone else was putting demands on her. If he left also, she'd have been in desperate straits. I just don't think he could have lived with himself if he had left, and as a result Buffy either committed suicide or starrted lashing out at Dawn or her other friends (thus destroying herself in another way). He was in a real bind. I agree he didn't handle it as well as he could have (he had no soul tio guide him in handling such a tricky situation) -- but his act of staying shouldn't be taken as an act of choosing to be victimized full stop.

3. And even if he did say "yes" to be victimized before, it still doesn't make it right for Buffy to have done the victimizing. And it sure has heck doesn't mean that he doesn't have the right NOW to finally stay NO.

4. Could you seriously sympathize with Buffy's actions/situation if she were a guy who had been pounding on a woman who loved him? I think there's a real gender bias in the way you want to portray this. Cause I don't think I've ever heard anyone sympathize with a domestically abusive GUY, no matter how much she sticks around despite not having to, no matter how bad things get for him.

True, it's all good to give Buffy another chance -- but the only way Spike can show that he *really* loves her is to insist on a mutually respectful relationship going forward.
