Loved it.
I'm not quite convinced by an evil sadistic Riley, but the rest of the story fits in with canon very well, and I'm quite willing to suspend disbelief for such an excellent plotline. I love the 'Spike being tortured to save Buffy' thing, and having Buffy suffer some of the 'experiments' is very realistic and something I would have thought they would have taken much further in the whole 'Initiative' story arc on the show.
Summary: When Spike wins something unexpected over a game of cards, he ends up with a most unlikely crypt-mate and a mission to help a newly resurrected Buffy. With an empathic serpent setting up shop in his head, a scheming warlock on his tail, and a bothersome change in his relationship with the Scoobies, Spike finds himself in the position to save the slayer he loves, the world, and maybe himself in the offing. How wonderful to have a conclusion to this excellent story at last. Not that I'm glad to see it stop, of course...
Of course the downside of not having the confrontation with the FE is that the Hellmouth is still open...
Not totally happy with the Graham/Dawn thing, even though I did like him a lot more than I ever liked Riley.
I still love LittleOldLadyBuffy in her 20 yr old body... with her own teeth... and you've got some of the best one-liners I've ever read... I'm so envious. I can never think of them until three or four chapters later and I think 'Oh, I wish I'd put that!'

I started this fic ages ago, then stalled about half way through at a particularly angsty part, and I've only just remembered it and over the last few days I've read it from start to finish.
WOW!
I absolutely love it! The way you played up Buffy's misguided desire for 'a normal life' and Riley's bigotry as far as vamps were concerned and his cruelty (hello, plastic stake, anybody? Not good for anything except torturing vampires!) and overall sense of inadequacy in that he stole her power and tried to outdo the Initiative, all just so believable.
I just felt one jarring note, though. All the time she was with Riley and vampires were being 'tamed' and sold as slaves, how come Buffy wasn't concerned about what was happening to Angel?
So then... I see no signs of the promised sequel.............
Summary: Four years have passed since a certain peroxide blond vampire was last seen in Sunnydale losing the Gem of Amara to the Slayer. Since that time the Initiative has introduced chipped vampires into a form of slavery, available to selected bidders. Weary and disillusioned, Buffy succumbs to her absent Watcher’s advice to obtain a vampire bodyguard to help her in the fight against evil.

Just found this fic 'cos of the update and just have to say how much I'm loving it. Somebody really has to sit down with Buffy and explain claims to her. Love that Giles has finally accepted Spike. Love that you've brought Oz back and broken up Willow and Kennedy (coughspoiltbratcough). I hope Spike continues to stand up to Buffy.
