"His Girl" by: dreamweaver, is unboubtably one of my favorite fics like this.

There is a fic I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. Plus I think Buffy may have died. But she is either resurected 300+ years into the future or gets transported there by falling through the portal. I do remember it was good even if it doesn't fit your requirements.

SMac do you know if 'Near to Me' by fallowdoe was ever finished I can only find a WIP.

My copy ends with chapter ten in 2006 so if there has ever been more I am unaware of it. It may be she stopped or she took it to livejournal and I did not discover it but I don't really know. Sorry.
