BE RESPECTFUL OF AUTHORS WHO HAVE 'REMOVED' THEIR FICS!!

This is not some rule that I'm putting up, I just think it would be respectful and overall good 'Spuffy' etiquette if you contact the authors who have removed their stories offline to see if they mind you passing their fics around. I cannot make you do this, nor do I plan on wasting my time trying, I just want to make it known that that's how I feel about it.

**If any author who has removed their stories, posts here or contacts me personally, and asks me to remove any posting about their fics, I will respect their wishes and remove said item immediately.**

Hm...how do you feel about people on this site who have copies mentioning it and then people can contact them privately or through the messaging option for the copies? I'm mentioning this because many of these writers are gone from the fandom now and it can take weeks for them to respond to emails, if at all. This way, at least, the forum doesn't become an official providing service of removed fics, but is still a way to make them available.

Yeah, that's a very good point Pari.

I have so many stories I saved on my computer just so I could read them later or format so my eyes can read them easily and it's become quite the library, but never meant for anyone but me. Then I shared it here with someone and suddenly I'm running a bookstore on a couple of threads which was never my intention and makes me uncomfortable for the very reason you mention. It has just snowballed. So I am guilty in this regard. I'm gonna make a much bigger effort to get permission from now on.

So if an author is contactable and has taken their fics down for publishing as original work or whatever then I'll wait on their word on whether it can be shared. But if someone has just disappeared from the fandom and is uncontactable, especially if their fics were housed on sites that disappeared as well, then I think that's a different situation. I don't think there's any harm in sharing fics that are gone simply from sites closing down and authors disappearing into the night...JMHO

Hmmm see I don't want to be a mediator or for this to be an 'official' place for this kind of thing, but members here are 'already' doing the exchanges. It's what is being done now in the the other sections, this is why I made this section 'exclusively' for that purpose. And made it a point of saying 'hey I'm not saying do it, I'm not saying don't it, I'm but if you do it do it the right way. Be respectful.' I will amend my above post to state, if any author who has removed their stories posts here or contacts me personally and asks me to remove any posting about their fics, I will respect their wishes and remove said item.

I think the point of this forum for me is, that I know ppl are gonna do but I want them to do it in a more singular location instead of all over the different forums here, that way If I'm asked to removed them I'll know where to look.

Personally, I think that about 95% of the lost fics are just that 'lost' due to sites like BS Diaries and B/S Central going offline. It's that 5% of fics that were removed by the authors that are the tricky ones. But at the end of the day, if a story is put out there and the author doesn't want it to be put out there, that author can simply say, 'Hey you turds stop passing around my fics!' And I don't think there's a fan in this community who would argue with that, who wouldn't say I'm sorry and immediately stop the exchanges. We're a wonderful community, we're a Spuffy fam and we look out for our own.

Yeah, I think that it makes sense to wait maybe two weeks or so, and if there's no response from an author, distribute. (I'm only talking about fics that were taken down from here or any of the still-running sites, not the ones that Pari mentioned from BS Diaries etc.)

Again I say that 'I' am not setting any rules except the one I mentioned about, **If any author who has removed their stories, posts here or contacts me personally, and asks me to remove any posting about their fics, I will respect their wishes and remove said item immediately.** But I think it's thoughtful of you guys to take it upon yourselves to try to set some guidelines

I've done that with the guidelines of common courtesy--especially after I found out the author was still around...I realllllllly didn't know this author was still around. She just wasn't writing Spuffy. I felt all kinds of bad for asking when I should have tracked her down through her site that was still around, and used my noggin to contact her...but I was so excited to see someone had it quickly for me...and yeah that was bad.

So I agree! Great forum Pari!

Really wishes there could be some where (a forum or site maybe?) we could post who is still around and can be contacted for stories, who isn't willing at all to give out their stories, and so on...

Some authors like me post only certain stories on certain sites, I had no idea she removed all of her stories, and in no was i trying 2 b disrespectful of anyone. I really wish there was a forum or site that we could be able to contact because i HAVE tried writing some of them by the email given and they don't respond. If she had written me back telling me that, I wouldn't have asked but since i had no response I thought i would ask here since this was the last site i saw her stories on.

But I'll e-mail her again and see if I get a response from her.
