wow that was really good. Great insight! Even if it is twisted around it makes great sense. Cause hey If you tell someone you love them after such a hard relationship and they say no you don't well damn that hurts! Add to the fact that he came back but never contacted her just teamed up with someone he had loudly expressed his dislike for. Of course she would take each moment and twist it, try to see him in a light that fits with what she could believe. What would fit how she saw his actions to mean.

Really great character study. One of the best.

Author's Response: Thanks. I enjoyed trying to see the world not from the viewer's perspective or even from Buffy's but in the way her memory would look back afterward with motivations, words, events shaded to match new understandings and experience in the world.

What a beautifully written and sad story! It made me want to weep for them both and it cries out for a sequel though I suspect there won't be one.

And I LOVED the backstory of how Buffy got even with Giles and the rest of the Watchers--the strategies you described made complete sense and worked within the story extremely well.
