The subtle stuff you had in there really got to me! The fact that she said he wouldn't hurt her shadows what sort of sick and abusive things she's had to deal with - which makes me cringe to think about. I'm glad she's finally able to be with someone who doesn't treat her that way, but I can't help thinking you're going to have her running miles away from him! At least he'll eventually help her work through it :)

Awww. So bittersweet. Poor Buffy. She has such a heavy weight on her shoulders, so many ghosts, and she feels she can't (or doesn't deserve to ) share the burden. Wonderful fusion of canon with AU. I loved the lines you chose and how you placed them in this chapter. Everything flowed so smoothly. The UST just keeps rising, and rising, along with the angst. Wonderful chapter Ashlee! I can't wait to see if Buffy regrets this and tries to distance herself from Spike.

I like the way you worked that scene. All her confusion. All her indecision. Then her passion and then the crying. Very realistic. Very good. And you didn't overdo it. And thank you for making Spike NOT be an idiot about it. His character was always very intuitive - especially about Buffy. It really shouldn't take him too long to puzzle some of this stuff together.
