Oh I loved the swim...very much...and the rat...LOL...and Spike's a bit of a rat himself, tricking sweet innoncent Buffy by letting her believe the rat is a threat...LOL...MEN!!! The things they'll do, just to get a little touch...loved the chapter...it was both sweet and funny and I won't object to more of that...and now I'm off to read ch10, where I hope to find more...LOL

Just one question-what type of birth control did they use then? This was a nice chapter. Didn't like Caleb going to her mom's house though.

Author's Response: I wondered when someone was going to ask a period piece author(ess) that question!!! That's an interesting question and I'll try to give you some answers (in my limited knowledge that is). Condoms were pretty common then, however, they were not made of latex, of course. I've heard they were made of sheep's bladders, etc. Yuck! Many Indian tribes, African tribes and hence American's had some access to forms of birth control. I think it was more of a religious issue in some cases. My own granny worked for a doctor, in a small town. When I got older, she told me things the doctor had relayed to her about ways to decrease the chance of pregnancy and all. My grandmother had five children, only, and her mother had twelve, so I have to think the old doc knew something! I imagine that most married couples did not practice birth control, per say. The rythym (sp?) method was popular, but alas, not very accurate. I'm thinking that condoms were used by men who went to prostitutes, etc. For disease control more then anything. So, I'm betting that when authors like me write period pieces and have Spuffy sex in them? It's a pretty good chance that there will be a little Spike or Buffy in the picture, soon! Thanks spuf

LOL I'd love to see some major Spuffyness, but I'll wait patiently because let's not forget- Buffy's young, it's the late 1800s, and she's virtuous... mostly:) I loved seeing Spike be so sweet towards her, and I'm looking forward to what happens next with them!
