I'm feeling really bad for Spike right now. I'm a bit confused about something. Spike said he'll never have Joni and Buffy (i'm presuming he's referring to Angel taking his place and getting his family) but didn't Spike raise Joni until his death in 2027? I think i'll go reread chapter 23 "Marigolds" to boost my spirits. I'm keeping the faith for a happy ending. Great chapter.

Author's Response: Spike *does * raise Joni. He was refering to that pesky *prophesy* that Angel thought he had sown up. If it hadn't been for Joyce Angel would have it by default. Remember that the Interregnum is timeless so there is no linear progression. (It's kinda like talking to Dru. Everything's there, it's just all mixed up.)

Good to know that you can't kill Joni :-D Homer? Mmmh - It's possible, but I don't think you mean the Simpsons..What would fit more is Homer who wrote the Odyssey - oh - and the Illias (sorry, I don't know the english word). Could be both... but maybe more the Odyssey: because the hero goes on a journey for a long time and comes back to his wife... just guessing here :) But it seems as if Homer was Spike? And there I was wondering .. but it was necro-tempered glass *gg* Love the choice of picture of Joni's room. And Spike noticed now who the baby was.. the one from his memories.

Author's Response: I wasn't thinking Simpsons. I was thinking the Odyssey. Homer *is* Spike;) But remember he's made a promise not to tell. (could be difficult for him.)

I'm hoping and praying for a lovely happy Spuffy ending. I'm just a pathetic romantic.

Author's Response: You know it'll be Spuffy smooches. If you need a hint, look into "The Odyessy" by Homer. (It's the book "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" was based on. The book is much older. And better, in my opinion.)

I'm guessing Spike feels his sacrifice and his situation is similiar to the works of Homer the poet...so he took his name. As a matter of fact I see paralells too. It was very touching that Spike's rainbow brought Buffy back. The line Spike wrote was truly beatiful. Great chapter!

Author's Response: That's what I was going for when I started this fic. I *love * the classics. ;-)

Great chapter...the ending really teared me up. It was interesting getting Buffy's POV on things. Loved the interaction between Spike and Buffy in this chapter. The sacrifice that Spike made back in ch.13 makes more sense now. I'd really like to learn more about the "caretaker" great title for him since Spike was always a caretaker for his loved ones. I'm curious will Conner play a role in the story?

Author's Response: He might. Read on and find out

What would it be like, to watch things be born, watch them grow and change, and know you never would? What would it be like to watch things die, knowing that you would stay the same? Very bittersweet and sad at the end, heartbreaking.. But Angel didn't kill baby Joni, or? Sometimes it's really bittersweet.

Author's Response: Joni is the heroine. I *can't* kill her, Spike would be sad:-(

My heart melted when Spike saw Jonina. And I even said "aww" outloud when he promised to take care of her. I have this bad feeling in my chest now from the part concerning Angel. *bites nail*

Author's Response: My goal is to make you talk to your computer screen. When I do that it means I'm really into a fic. If I can make you do that, I'm doin' something right. ;-)

That was a lovely quote at the beginning of the chapter. It was so sweet when Joni reached out to try touch her Daddy. It's a shame Angel and his good intentions had to ruin the Father/Daughter bonding. I really look forward to when Spike actually gets to hold Joni in his arms and to when Angel gets his just desserts. Great chapter!

Author's Response: You know what they say the road to Hell is paved with, right?

Awe :) The first part was beautiful - Spike touching his daughter for the first time. Good that he was so near - Jonina could have died - the machines didn't notice the problem. A big GRRRR to Angel. Trying to kill the little dove. I hope Angel will not succeed.

Author's Response: Of course he won't succeed!

OK--You've got me sucked in even through the haze of my cold medication, please please please don't leave us readers hanging for too long! Love the complexity of the storyline--hope you're keeping your muse well supplied with Wheetabix & hot chocolate (and perhaps the occasional whiskey!) Cheers-- Heather

Author's Response: You know I take good care of him! ;-) I'm glad you're enjoying it so much.

Spike gives his entire heart out willingly without a second thought. It was so touching to see him stand at that window and look at the baby night and day. I have the feeling that you might make me cry before this fic is done. You have a way of reaching deep emotions

Author's Response: You have *no* idea how many times I wanted to throw a shoe through my t.v. screen when I saw how the writers let Buffy and Angel stomp all over that poet's heart. Keep reading. :-)

Poor Talitha I didn't know she was so sick. One of things I liked so much about Spike was his capacity to love. It really warms my heart to read your portrayal of Spike as a new parent. I liked Buffy in this chapter too. I'm really looking forward to when they take Joni home for some family bonding. Very touching chapter!

Author's Response: Often, the first person to contract an illness shows no signs at all. Doesn't always happen that way, but for this story it works. Family bonding in the next chapter.

So when Joni was born her mother died too. What a harsh world to come into for her. Awe :) Spike is so devoted the that little baby. ~ And I'm glad Joyce managed to get him back to Buffy (later) *sniff* Love the names Spike did give the baby.. Dove of peace? Looking forward to read more!

Author's Response: This world can sometimes be harsh. But, it can have its moments, kinda like Spike.

The words are sand and waters not water and sands. It is the song that was played in the early Charmed episode where Piper is hauted by the chinese ghost and had to find the body(?) and the song was played at the funeral. I can't remember the episode title. It's a sad song if you coming to think about it, but very good too.

Sand and Water .. I know a song with that name (from Beth Nielsen Chapman). I love it very much. So Angel wasn't the one kiling David. I thought so (that he killed him). Well, but Angel is listening to Holland - and Holland is lying. So it could have been possible. *hugs Joyce* Loved that scene. Yep - the songs fits the chapter: All alone I heal this heart of sorrow / All alone I raise this child /... Looking forward for more - as always.

Author's Response: The muse must have been whispering to me because I did not know there was a song with that name. If I did, I would have noted it in the Author's Note! Thanks for telling me, And I'll be sure to listen to that muse more;) seems to be working well for me.

So Angel didn't kill David? I'm wondering what the deal with Talitha is (her smell is off and she's delicate for a Slayer) I wonder if she'll survive childbirth. I'm with Spike gotta love Joyce in this chapter. Looking foward to more.

Author's Response: I have to introduce the virus somehow, don't I?

I was terribly surprised when I saw my name (Heather). It makes me feel special, thanks. And I got to speak to Spike in the story too. *blush* Wow. Oh, I love Joyce. So funny when she calls Angel a poof. And I know I addressed this earlier, but Angel is so screwed up. I've read other fics where he is the bad guy but you've done the best job I can remember coming across.

Author's Response: You're welcome! Just my way of acknowledging you. Thanks for the compliment. The best vilians aren'ot really vilians, just characters who think they're doing right.

After reading this chapter and your answers to the last two reviews you have no idea how pleased I am right now. I love happy endings...thanks for giving me hope! I can't wait for the filler that leads us to this point. I love the way you tell a story!

Author's Response: Would I let you down M.G.? Hang in there.;-)

So Buffy is alive in the future now? And, did I understand that last part correctly? Buffy asked him back and so he is going to go? If so I'm going to dance a jig. I'm also intrigued by how you responded to the last review. Is the caretaker someone we know? Hmmm. . .

Author's Response: Start dancin'! And thre caretaker *is* someone we know.

Grief, huh? I hope that not a sign for the end! But you said to have faith:) Love your caretaker - that he cares for William's grave. What I don't like is that there is a grave - Spike (William Alistair Dustin) is dead. But it's right - that was what the prophecy said - that the vampire had to die. To make it all better. :)

Author's Response: I never gave the caretaker a name. There could be a reason for that;-)

Even when Angel's intension were good - what he did was bad. It lead to pain - for Buffy and for Spike. And Joni. Oh my - David is dead. DId Angel do it? Looking forward to find out.

Author's Response: Iron fist control is *never* a good idea. (Just for my own sanity, I'm going to give a big hint here.) Remember the sand to glass analogy a few chapters ago? Well, does anyone remember that David and Talitha's last name happens to be "Sands?" Maybe that will help you see where I'm going? Keep reading;-)

You've made me hate Angel, but surprisingly understand why he acts the way he does. It is a very conflicting and scary insight, but means you are doing a wonderful job.

Author's Response: Thanks! I like complex charaters. I guess that's why I liked Spike to begin with. I wanted to know why Angel saw things so "Black and white" so I got into his head a little. Believe me, it's a scary place to be for very long. ;-)

I liked Spike's conversation with Angel. I liked how this chapter explored the contrasts between Spike and Angel and gave us insight into what's going on in Angel's head. I'm confused though was Angel a regular part of Joni's life when she was growing up? What made him tell the truth about his actions in all this...was it Spike's death? Was Joni referring to Spike or David when she threatend Angel? Sorry to be such a bother with all the questions. Great chapter!

Author's Response: No bother, M.G! Let's see, flame and vampires don't mix, so I think Joni was referring to Spike, (David is dead, and Joni still needs to be born.) Remember a few chapters ago, when Holland said that things were constantly in flux, changing? Well, Spike is making choices that have an impact on the future and that's why things are changing. But remember, Angel from 2030 has no knowledge of those changes, and niether does 2005 Spike. He just *thinks* he's going with his instincts. The people in the "Interregnum" can see both timelines, though. Remember that, it *might* be important.

It's really refreshing that Buffy's eyes are so open about Angel and who the real champion is...she's such a good wife. Things should be getting really interesting what with Spike trying to save Joni and Angel set on killing her. It seems like Buffy is feeling the connection to Joni too. Great chapter! Can't wait for whatever happens next!
