Hi! I found this via a rec by Annapurna2 on LJ. It kept me up until the wee hours last night reading it all. I love Meret, I love how Meret has altered Spike's routine. I have missed Buffy, not so much because I wanted the 'shippiness immediately, but because I worried how she was coping without Spike's companionship (in the pre-OMWF friendship mode). So it's nice to see her again. And it's quite clever how Spike's defense of Meret – like Buffy's of Dawn with Glory – seems to have kick-started her sympathy (for Dawn) and her involvement in her world.
Or perhaps, and I just got this (silly caia), that feeling Meret's warmth and affection in her head may have helped her by giving her positive feelings that actually reached her. (I admit, when Spike first went to show Meret to Dawn, my first thought was he was going to show her to Buffy.) And aww, with the necklace. Meret: "why not give her her prezzie, Papa?" *g*

I'm glad you're liking the story even though I did drag out bringing in Buffy into the story (maybe too long) because I loved playing with Spike's dynamic with Meret and the fringe Scoobies so much. I just had the pleasure of catching up with the last twelve chapters of this delightful fic. I am so in love with Meret, and the fact that Spike has someone who cares for him. The friendship between Spike and Tara is wonderful, and I'm so looking forward to the more Spuffy parts of your story.
Do you have an update listing? Or an LJ? I'd be happy not to miss new chapters.

I tend to announce the chapters there, but I only post here (mostly because I'm a troglodyte who has yet to learn how to do cuts on livejournal, but that is neither here nor there). What a great chapter! I love your blustery, befuddled Spike. Trying to be the tough guy and not pulling it off terribly sucessfully-- very in character!
I have to say I paticularly love Spike's chat with Tara. I could feel his disapointment when she has to study instead of hanging out with him. Spike's lonliness, which he'll probbly never admit, comes through clearly. Poor Spike! I'm glad Buffy is going to force him to open up a little. Yeah Meret! It's obviously a little harder to have "weird mixed signals" when you can both feel each other's emotions through an empathic snake!

Oh, my gosh, so many moments to laugh at. I'm still giggling as I type, seeing Spike perfectly looking awkward and confused. And his attention to his coat. Yep, same look would be in my eyes, as Tara's.
So, I'm thinking that Meret's general good mood is helping Buffy cope? Or was it merely a decision after he went after Dawn. Either way, her conviction to Meret's safety is a very good thing to see. Caring about something other than her own issues will help her break out of that depression. Depression is a very narrow world viewpoint, and sel-absorbed, from a certain point of view.

Yes, that coatls going to be on fine asset, isn't she? I like the Slayer here too. She's far less vitriolic and somewhat more mature than the S5/6 Buffy. I'm surprisingly optimistic that, with a more assured Spike you've developed, we might get some healthy Spuffy sparkage.

Oh my.. bad luck for Spike. Not being able to fight back his attacker must be terrible annoying for him. Oh! And he got his duster back *gg* and is very glad about it even if he's not telling *grins* Awe - loved the interaction between Buffy and Meret - and Spike speechless *gg* And loved Buffy standing up for Meret :)

Read this once, went back and read the previous two chapters, read this again. I have to say it's a great chapter. Love that Spike's frustration is topped off by being forced to drink off-brand bourbon (and I know how he feels! Off-brand bourbon? Yech.). I love his complete befuddlement when Buffy is polite. I love Meret's confusion at Spike's horror over the gift of the chain. Oh, heck, I love it all.

The details in this story really make it come alive. Spike's agitated pursuit of violence ending with a rebar through the shoulder was a vivid image. I loved his reaction to getting the duster back, and how easily Tara is able to read through his nonchalance. Meret's impromptu gift giving and bonding with Buffy was very well realized.
