A magnificently crafted complex tale. I just loved it. Even though you say you don't plan a sequel I'd love a little epilogue to see how Buffy breaks up with Riley ,and what happens in your version of Hush with Buffy & Spike fighting together against the Gentlemen. After all Riley doesn't know that Buffy was his invisible assailant...
Author's Response: I'm not going to say that I will never write a sequel, because never is a long time, but I'm focused on some other projects right now (FaFT, a new plot bunny that has been driving me up the wall, and the ever-acursed thesis). What a well plotted, fascinating story. You did an excellent job jumping back and forth in time while keeping the action and characters clear. Takeshi, Kaede and Ichiro were all vividly written original characters, and your attention to detail in both time lines strongly set each scene .
Spike and Buffy were always in character, even after mentally acknowledging their bond. I like that the softening emotions between them barely colored the story, leaving their future together up to the readers' imaginations. I wish I had discovered this while it was being written, but I was delighted to stumble upon the completed story. Thanks for taking such care with this.

Lovely....just lovely! I fell in love with your Japanese characters (and would love a story about Akare and Katsuo and the way they chose to die yet be born as undead to be together.)

And it's over. *sighs happily* This has been a lovely story, I enjoyed it a lot! The way you describe takeshi and and Kaede's story in japan made me feel as though I was there. And Buffy, Spike and the scoobies, completely in character. Wonderful.
I liked how you namned the chapter titles, the first and the last, it gives that extra full circle touch. And it's truly a circle of rebirths, the picture you painted in the very end with the slayer and her samurai; gone but not alone. Beautiful.

Great work! I like that you ended this story with the hint of many adventures to come... especially since we've seen season 5-7 and know what's coming. I also liked that you brought destiny back into the mix. Kaede and Takeshi are destined to be together even though 'they would carry different names and different faces....' Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Author's Response: After all the hell I put them through in the first part of the story, I couldn't just leave Kaede and Takeshi (or Spike and Buffy) without a happy ending. That is a beautiful tale. I love the intertwining of stories between Takeshi and Kaede and our present day duo. I love that you left an open ending because we basically know what's going to happen. Very nicely written and it really kept me on my toes. The whole time I was expecting them to just make out or something because you had mentioned that there was only going to be 14 chapters. But I'm pleasantly surprised that you kept your normal style and didn't rush into anything. It was very sweet and beautiful and very memorable. It's amazing how you managed to sneak the Japanese feel of it without distorting the present day theme. Good action sequences, although I'm never a fan of reading action so it's quite refreshing to read. All in all, really really amazing. It was definitely worth the wait.

Beautiful, with the slightest tinge of bittersweet.
It seems to be your M.O. now to have an open ending. *grins* So, what's next?
It's fascinating to think of the possible differences now that Spike and Buffy are bonded with the swords, and building towards each other. No more hateful words! Disagreements, sure, but Buffy can't remain a total bitch to him and carry Kaede's knowledge at the same time.

Aww, how beautiful was that ending? Amazingly beautiful.
I was in two minds though, about having Takeshi and Kaede close the tale. I think, having re-read this chapter, I would have loved to have seen it end with,
“So what’re we gonna do next weekend, slayer?”
Her breathless giggles mingled with his. “What about ‘Who says there’s gonna be a next time’?”
“What about ‘Shut up and get back in the bathtub’?” he retorted.
Possibly because of my eternal thirst for MORE, it seems to suggest, 'more to come'. *hint hint*

What a perfect ending! I love how you tied all the elements together in this final chapter; and the way it's both the ending and the begining in more ways than one. Wow! Very nicely done!
