If I remember correctly Kaede and Takeshi didn't have much time together.. that is depressing too. I can't remember too what was written on the paper... Buffy with still being with her family and friends has it better than Kaede. Yet.. this is years later. ~ Glad to see Buffy does some self analysis. And is Giles yelling at Spike? Looking forward to the next chapter to find out :)

The scenes of Takeshi's turning and struggle for control are excellent. I also love the interaction between Spike and Williow, and the big reveal in the grocery store.

So that's how takeshi got turned, how awful. I'm glad his sword gave him his soul back though. Looks like Angel wasn't the first vamp with one in your verse, and takeshi is soo much cooler, and stronger for that matter, resisting the killing immediately.
I wonder how Buffy will react when she finds out about Riley, now that she's got those extra memories..

*sigh* Takeshi... so that was the way he was turned. He run into a trap when he tried to help. But his sword save him (his soul) when he was reborn. ~ Seems that both (Buffy and Spike) are a bit influenced of the borrowed memories... Buffy didn't see the 'real' Spike before but now she's nice to him, seeing not only a demon in him. The shopping had at last one good: Spike knows now the name of at last one of his attackers. Wonder what Buffy will say. Till next time! I was glad to see the update :)

Oh dear, sweet Takeshi. Married to Kaede just three short months. His love for her though, so intense, so true. So strong that even being turned by Sano and having a demon take up residence within him could not quash his love. I'm not sure if it was his love for the Slayer that ensured he retained his soul or the presence of his sword in his hand, perhaps? Whatever, those scenes in Edo were harrowing.
Spike's inclusion into the Scoobies is a whole other vibe, isn't it. There's tension all around and it's going to take a while for things to settle, information to be shared, trusts to be built or understandings to be stated. Quite remarkable how you've created two mood themes that work so well together.
Wonder what the reaction of the Scoobies will be to Spike's revelation about Riley? I liked Riley in the show and I liked the set up of the Initiative storyline. The whole thing rather fizzled out badly though and although I never felt Riley and Buffy fitted well together I did think that the Initiative could have been a recurring pain in the ass for the Slayer and her Scoobies.... sorry, me rambling there.
This chapter is great, we get more insight into Takeshi and Spike gets to stretch his newly fledged wings... Thank you as always, pet.
Author's Response: I'm so glad you're liking the two moods and plots, because I was (am?) worried they might clash or that the modern storyline would undermine or be undermined by the historic one. (Can you tell that I'm a big worrier? Thought so.) I promise I'll be getting to the matter of the soul/sword and the fallout from the Riley reveal in the next few chapters. Oh, honey, this story is awesome! I had tears building when Takeshi said goodbye and faced the sun. I have a fondness for Japanese culture, also, but your knowledge certainly passes mine. My boyfriend would probably love to discuss sword lore with you. He's read all about Minimoto Musashi.
Very fitting that the Initiative would want to use Orochi. Their arrogance in the face of supernatural creatures was disgusting. They had no clue what they were really dealing with.
Buffy and Spike definitely have a lot to talk about now. *grins* And you're not the only one more comfortable in Spike's head. I have a hard time writing Buffy, for if I end up with her being too bitchy, then I just want to give her a very painful death for all she did to Spike. Hence the fluffy Spuffy.
Anyway, I'm loving both sides of the story and can't wait for more!
Author's Response: If he hasn't already looked into it, tell your boyfriend to read A Book of Five Rings. Reading about Musashi is fun, but reading Musashi himself can really make you think. Poor Kaede-- and poor Takeshi. Well done setting the scene though; very believable moment. The hands against the barrier thing was especially well done.
Glad Buffy is moving beyond chaining Spike to the plumbing; that kind of emotional growth is a good mirror to the other half of the story.
