Spike took it hard, he was very much surprised. Looking forward to how Buffy reacted. Hopefully Spike running away instead of trying to kill him at once will earn him some points. *sigh* But I doubt it.

Giles knows that William and Spike are the same person, but he's keeping it from Buffy for her own good, wanting to spare her further grief. Or so he thinks. It'll definitely kick him in the ass when she finds out the truth later. Spike was definitely shocked, the poor vamp. We're a couple of chapters away from their face to face meeting! No, I don't want to slap you! This chapter was a perfect blend of nerve-tingling suspense in Spike's part and the quiet before the storm for Buffy. I liked Josh's pretentiousness and Buffy's non-reaction. I guess Faith thought he was classy and not looking to score on the first date with poor Buffy, so they'd fit.

I have to admit, even after the great writing and the real emotion moving the earlier chapters, I was worried the cliche of misunderstanding--where Spike would walk in on Buffy smiling at another man during a cozy date--would take over and ruin the reunion. It's been used far too many times and wrung dry. I'd much rather see them meet with all the confusion and mixed up feelings of just the facts that they had loved each other as Buffy and William and now have changed so much being the main problems.

Wonderful look into Spike's head and the perfect teaser. I am definitely looking forward to the next chapter!

Author's Response: Awww, you're so kind! :) Spike is getting so close to figuring out who the Slayer really is and I hope you'll find his reaction believable. Buffy will get more clues that something's amiss too. Hee... the date was fun for me to write and Josh was a total douche, which was my intention all along. Faith meant well, but her definition of classy differs from that of Buffy's. ;) But at least she didn't fix Buffy up with someone dressed in leather! Thank you for the compliment of great writing... Spike has no reason to try to act as a human, and all the crimes he's committed will hit him that much harder when he realizes that through his actions, he put himself into a position of Buffy's enemy. Another great chapter. Spike's fighting was wonderful, and how he felt during and after the battle was so clear and emotional but still violent and in character. The pacing was great, too. I am so glad he's lashing out, and even at himself, rather than trying to forget Buffy.

At first, I thought we were getting a glimpse of the happy times and linking Buffy's thoughts to the hair tie Spike has during their caring make-out session. It was a beautiful scene, and then the interruption managed to be realistic. it was only then that I started to wonder if Buffy was having a Slayer dream.

Fantastic ending--I just can't wait for the truth to come out and how Buffy the Slayer and Spike the Vampire really feel towards each other. thanks for updating!

Author's Response: *blushes* You're very kind. It makes me so happy to know you got from the fight scene exactly what I wanted you to. It was both violent and reckless, and as you said emotional. I thought it would also serve well as a landmark for his reputation, establishing him as a dangerous vampire, even more so because of his heartbreak. Hee... pacing. I used to struggle with it a lot when I first started writing because I tend to go into descriptive mode, but thanks to my awesome betas, now I'm aware of avoiding it. ;) Right on the spot, Anna. :D It is actually both... the first part of the dream was a happy memory, which also allowed us to see William's affinity to take the tie out of Buffy's ahir, and his inability to defend her. This fact is a factor that fuels Spike's rage and relentless killing. But at the end of the dream, the memory shifted into the Slayer dream territory, not that Buffy was aware of it. ;) I'm happy you liked! We're very close to one fo them figuring it out. So it's because he wants to fight the slayer that Spike said they're staying. Otherwise they wouldn't have the chance to meet again. But I fear that will bring pain too (to see what Spike has become).

Author's Response: Yup, Spike just loves a challenege and it also plays into my cards. I can't very well have them on the opposite sides of the world, can I? ;) There will be angst when they meet, but hey... you know I'll make it work out in the end. :) Poor Buffy was having fun but of course it didn't last. Hee... no you haven't asked. I don't have lj, mainly becasue any username I tried was rejected for being already used so I got pissed after half hour of trying to come up with an original username. Some of you might not like a part of this chapter. You mean the Darla + Drusilla part? Yeah, not really liking it. But Spike doesn't know Buffy is alive.
Buffy won't be happy to discover how much Spike has changed, that he's a killer now. That's against everything William was.

Ah Buffy hurts so much, it's a tragic what happened.
I can understand why she fights so much (She didn't tell Giles how she sneaked into the training room at nights to get rid of the feeling of being helpless by working out until she couldn't anymore. How much she relished hunting the demons down and landing the killing blow.)

Sounds as if Buffy will discover soon that William is still alive - kind of, of the un-live kind. I wonder how she'll take it. William has changed.

It's a one tiny step forward. :) But yeah, as you already know the guilt weights heavily on her and slaying is the way for her to alleviate it for a little while.
