Buffy's depression was very emotional. I could visualize and feel her despair. Buffy emerging from this self-inflicted prison was great!

I'm going to pull for a short sequel where we find out what happened to lotta, and if buffy and spike find each other, and if angel ever comes back....

This chapter was sad to read for me. I don't see Buffy as happy. She acepting her life as it is without Spike as it seems. But happy? No, I wouldn't call it happy. She's missing an urgent part of her life.

I still needed my hanky dammit woman!!!!!!!! To see her in your words all well...basically...not content at all but resigned. Resigned like nothing better is ever going to happen and she might as well live for what she has because hey...not gonna be any better. THAT SUCKS!!! But..i have faith in my little fave authoress that you will put it all to rights and if not it's the licorice whip for you missy!!! ;) Loved the chapter though beautifully written. More soon? *big eyes*

Ok, this is my resolve face. You've hit on a pet peeve of mine. Whenever anyone tells me that they are "content", I automatically think that they are settling for less than they could have, and fooling themselves into trying for less than they could be. This is not acceptable for anyone, least of all Buffy or Spike. These are not the type of people who just accept that there is no other way. Glad I got that off my chest. A vague disclaimer is no one's friend. That being said, it's your story and I trust you to take us where you think we need to go. I've certainly loved it so far.

My heart is truly breaking now...two long years. I'm wondering if your next chappie will be Spike's pov - where is he two years later? Has he found Carlotta? I sense that he must have. Surely tales and/or "sightings" of a creature as terrible as what Lotta has become would find their way back to Buffy. So I sense that he must be with her, unable to end her life/unlife himself, and believing it his duty to keep her from unleashing herself on innocents. I must tell you, though, bear, when you wrote that Buffy "lets her mind wander to the love she has come to realize she can live without", as a die-hard Spuffy shipper I felt a twinge of hopelessness in this piece for the first time. Again with the heart-breaking...So sad it is almost over. Can't wait for your next fic, though! So I'll sign off here, shamelessly begging for a happy ending...somehow, someway...though if it must be unhappy, I trust you completely. M. Smith

I apologize for the long gap between reviews - RL intrusions. I love the way this is moving. Once again, you give us unexpected shifts that move everyone down the story path, but not always the way I thought they'd go. This is such a lovely chapter, very quiet and thoughtful. I appreciate the fact that you skip over the details of Buffy's first year and move us to her present place. I get the sense that it is not just contentment but peace that she has found, and acceptance. Of course, the fact that she's heard nothing from Spike in two years scares the daylights out of me. I have this vision of Spike and Carlotta locked in this struggle of support and containment - suffering because Spike won't instigate her demise and Carlotta switches between wanting it and fighting it. Love this story so much! Thank you!
