The Interregnum confuses me a bit. Is Spike really going to hell, or is he metaphoring? And maybe I missed something, or you haven't said yet, but how exactly did Spike save Buffy from the illness in a previous chapter? I think it said he got the disease and that is how he died, but how did that save Buffy? And I'm also confused about how at the end of the chapter I described above, Buffy asked Spike to come back. He said 'I thought you'd never ask'. I got the impression he was going to return. Ugh, maybe you should give me a recap so I can get things straight. Anyways, I'm really enjoying the story, regardless.
Author's Response: Whew- ok let's see. First, the Interregnum is timelss, but everything you need to know is there. But, like talking to Dru, it's all mixed up. Because od what he did in "Prayers" , Spike no longer really has a soul. So in order to be eligible for the shanshu, he'll need some intervention from Joyce. (In the form of a *wish* maybe?;)) Now, as much as I love him, Spike can be a bit of a martyr. It is possible that, in an attempt to come up with a vaccine, he may have given himself the virus. I've been so busy I haven't had time to read your story. So I had 3 wonderful chapters to get through. I was disappointed when I got to the last one. They went too quick. I love the new dreams from 2003. All these timelines are hard to keep clear, though. I'm sure it will all come together in the end.
Author's Response: The 2003 timeline is only one day. I chose that day because that was the day the "Angel" episode "Unleashed" aired. (That's the one where Spike disapeared for hours) When he disapeared from W&H he visited Joni. Present day Spike is using what he learned from *his* past to help navigate through the future. I loved how Spike is trying to communicate with Buffy through flowers. So sweet. *sigh* But what is up with the 2003 date at the beginning? Joni wasn't born yet? Was that a mistake, or am I just still majorally not getting stuff? And then Spike remembered that memory in 2005 when Joni is a baby. Hmmm, is Spike reliving things agian? God, I'm sorry I'm so confused with things. It must be so annoying for you to keep explaining everything.
Author's Response: Oookay let's start with the basics. Remember on "Angel" ghosty spike kept popping out of W&H? Well, in my story, Joyce made sure he landed with Joni so he'd have a reason to fight later. Ghostly Spike was Joni's imaginary friend. But kids are intuitive. She knows deep down that Spike is her Daddy. Keep in mind that Joyce wouldn't have had to meddle with things if Joni hadn't tried that spell in the beginning. Joni was born, but do you remember the dreams about a little girl that Spike started having soon after Dru went dusty? Those were about Joni. 2005 Spike has recognized Joni as the girl from his dreams, and is now using his "memories " to try and avoid the things that "Interregnum" Spike and Buffy wish they could change. Keep reading maybe it will be clearer to you? :-)
