I started reading Spuffy when I was on bed rest last year, pregnant with my first baby. I was on bed rest for what seemed like forever, so I read ALOT of spuffy.
Imagine my surprise to find that I was completely hooked, even when I could leave my bedroom again.
My two favorite stories are "My Life Closed Twice" by Anaross and "The Last Summer" by Annie Sewell-Jennings. If you haven't read them yet, go! Read! Ana's is at the Just Rewards archive and The Last Summer is at All About Spike.
Those two are amazing writers. Their characters are fleshed out and believable and their stories are moving and I just couldn't stop reading. (I don't know either of them, btw :)

Poor Spike. His perfect night is ruined. I do think Buffy is being a tiny bit unreasonable here, since he would know more about claims and the risks involved. Also, they kinda just met not too long ago and forever is a *really* long time so even if he said no for reasons other than risk it would be understandable.
On the other hand, I guess it doesn't look good from Buffy's viewpoint, but I don't know why she would think he wouldn't want her around longer just because he doesn't want to claim her.
I'm sure you'll make it work out in the end, though! I have faith! Good to know she doesn't need to be turned to stay with him. Still loving this story. :)
Author's Response: I think their perfect night is still rescueable. So no worries about that. And I do see your point regarding Buffy and I promise that will be addressed in chapter 21. Buffy didn't think he would want her around for longer even if he didn't claim her, because he never intended to keep her for longer than the duration of her vacation. It didn't mean he didn't love her, just he didn't think he deserved her in any way and she'd be better off without him. Yeah, turning her was the one thing I knew from the start wouldn't happen. Spike would've never forgiven himself for taking her out of the light and into the darkness with him. Thank you so much for your comment, you wouldn't believe me how much you pov helped me iron out some details. :D

All kinds of badness in this chapter! The nerve of Angel bringing Buffy's father with him to help convince her to marry him. What's his angle? I keep wondering if I missed something (my brain is mush :) ) and Buffy's father has a lot of money or something Angel wants. Hard to believe it's just love of Buffy that's making him so persistent. Hope Connor's ok.

(As an aside, you have a typo that happens somewhat frequently - "barely" comes out as "barley". Wouldn't get caught in a spell check because it's a word. I have words I constantly mistype and it's really annoying when the typo is a word too!)
