When I finished watching Angel, then I bought the BtVS DVD set and watched it.

Then it happened - Joss redeemed Spike, Spike fell in love with Buffy, he went to the end of the world for her and she treated him like crap (bad Buffy writers!). Then, of course, I got it. I am now in the Spike corner, on his bandwagon and leading the parade.
Like most people, I turned to Fanfic to "fix" what Joss and the other evil writers on BtVS did to Spike. I've read quite a lot and then decided to give writing a go. My first story is "Unexpected" and I *TRY* to "fix" Buffy and Spike's life. Not everything is Puppies and Blood, but hopefully, it all works out in the end {{grin}}.

OH, SPIKE!!! ROFL! That is just tooooo utterly perfect!
And then poor Spike seeing the future and the 'no,no,no' tirade. Oh, our poor, poor baby. {cuddles Spike}
I have to wonder how things might've gone off canon if Buffy got a glimpse of the future ... the FAR distant future perhaps with the world-savage from her favorite mortal enemy. She would, of course, deny the truth of it... but then, how did she KNOW she needed Spike at the very end when everyone else wanted him gone? hmmmmmm... It would be handy for her to figure that out sooner rather than later, however.
And yes, there is no way to not see a bear - on TV or in a zoo or even in the wild - without a Spuffy fan's mind going, 'You made a bear! UNDO IT! UNDO IT!' That is one of Spike's classic scenes and you guys did a wonderful job of explaining his wigginess and Buffy's quick, sincere apology.
You guys did an awesome job on this whole story. I do hope you can find a way to get together again and grace us with more of the same! Very, very enjoyable with true-to-canon characters. I adored the Willow/Spike interaction and the UST was, as always, perfection. Thanks so much!

I\'m so happy you did :D We were quite concerned about the ending, after our beta informed us we were EVIL and couldn\'t just end it there :P We definitely would like to do a sequel and will try to organise matters as soon as life allows. I think it\'s a really interesting concept and hopefully if we do get to do a sequel we can adress some of those issues. Yep, I knew Riley would come and muck it up. That was a bit over the top even for Captain Cardboard! I have to agree with Spike on that one - he needs to be taken out before he hurts someone! Seems like he's losing it! But Yay! for Buffy dumping the jerk for Spike and for Spike's assessment of how it would be to have a Slayer for a girlfriend!

Oh darn, Buffy - smack him anyway! Shoot! I really hope *someone* gets to smack Riley before this is over. Loved all the interactions - really loved Xander protesting the removal of the chip! I could totally see that! And of course, Spike would be willing to chance Buffy's scorn if it meant saving her and his other Summers girls.
I understand not wanting to rewrite the whole season and compressing it down. No problem, now that I know that's what we're doing. Can't wait for more.

The one (and perhaps only) time I liked Dawn was when she was hiding in the cave with Spike and being remorseful for putting everyone in danger. I therefore already like your Dawn!
I admit that I was a little confused about Riley being here so close to the deadline for Glory's portal, then, of course, realized that without Spike there pushing everyone's buttons, he hadn't left as he had in canon (I guess that's the reason). The only other slightly confusing thing is the timing of Joyce's surgeries, as in canon they happened a fair time before Glory's deadline (and she'd been dead a fair while before The Gift), and I don't see how Spike leaving would have any real effect on that. I'm sure that I'm being much to literal and anal and it's not enough of a distraction to detract from the story, but it was just something that kept niggling at me as I read. Of course, there is a chance that Giles is wrong about the deadline too.
Anyway, that said, I'm enjoying the story and hope that Spike can kick Riley's ass soon. :P
Author's Response: I\'d hoped the \"this is pretty AU\" in the summary would be enough to let me glide past much of season 5. :) It\'s not all because Spike left that it\'s AU - it\'s just an AU. The spell isn\'t in effect, the timeline is different, things are more condensed into a few months than a whole season. Riley\'s still there because, in canon, he was still there when Joyce got sick. The whole Glory thing has just advanced faster than in canon - including her deadline for opening the portal, which, yes, in canon was in late Spring because that\'s when the season ended. But in my story, her deadline is falling much sooner than that. And Joyce may or may not die. Probably not in this story, anyway.
I know I\'m playing fast and loose with canon, and I really don\'t like to do that, usually, but I also have no desire to rewrite the entire season, so some things have been combined or have happened other places (Spike\'s beatdown from Glory, for instance) and some things are just not going to be here at all. Hope that doesn\'t throw you out of the story too often. I know it can be annoying...

Summary: What if Ethan's spell had lasted a little longer, and Giles and Spike had spent more time together? Goes way AU almost immediately after Giles finds Spike, so no relationship to canon at all except for a few lines of dialogue written by much more talented (and well paid) people. Probably plays a bit fast and loose with the timeline too. :)

Ok, so, I haven't read the comics and the Dowling bit was a little confusing at first 'cos I didn't know who he was, but you explained it later. I think the story is perfectly enjoyable if you haven't read the comics, although now it makes me worry about reading them - Spike leaves with Bug-people! Oh, Spike! {{shakes head}} Why can't Joss just let Spuffy be happy? Never happen, will it?
Anyway, back to this - lovely little story. Their bickering was perfect, both of their insecurities perfect, and the ending was, of course, perfect. :P Merry Christmas!

I wish I could continue the tale, but I can\'t see a clear arc in mind. And one thing I\'ve learned, if I don\'t know the ending, I shouldn\'t start! (I have 45K words of a story that nobody will ever see that taunts me with this info)

Yay!! William and Andrew - how funny! Many cute lines in here, loved Andrew trying to teach him to frame his junk and lead with his groin! LOL! Poor William! Did you see the Con where Nick B. mimicked Spike's walk? Too funny -'really works the obliques' he noted. heehee! Can't wait for more!

I think my angsty influence has rubbed off on you, DH! Of course, that was my evil plan when I offered to beta for you, turn you into an angst-machine! :-) In all seriousness, though, excellent chapter. Loved the ogling and laughing at the beginning and the crying in the middle. Felt so bad for all of them really, but for Spike, Buffy and Anya in particular. You know I love it when a story makes me cry and you did! I can't wait to see just who exacts retribution on Xander! Will it be Anya or Buffy or Ripper? Or JOYCE? Or the witches? The possibilities for major pain are limitless. I almost feel bad for Xan now ... almost! ;-) Great chapter! Keep it up!
Author's Response: HI, P4S! Heehee, well, that angsty stuff of yours seems to be contagious, alright! LOL. I'd like to think I'm getting the hang of it. Glad that you liked the chapter, and there were bit in there that you could lol at, as well as the more emotional stuff towards the end. As for Xander, and who's gonna get to him first.... I'm not telling, but rest assured, I don't think he will fare too well! You reap what you sow.
