His dead wife believes Buffy loves him. I believe this story starts with Riley, xander, giles and buffy beating spike up because of a demon influencing their feelings. I believe Willow and Tara call Angel and he takes Spike to LA.

Angel tells Cordy to not expect a goodbye from Spike. He will be just gone one day. Spike keeps track of Dawn and Dawn finally breaks by telling Buffy he is in England.

I can add a little more detail...

Anya knows one of the ghosts because she dated/was about to marry. Xander acts like a jerk.

Dawn when having dinner in the dining hall sees spike ride a horse through the windows and Giles is impressed because he is some master horse rider.
