i remember there was this fic that i read where buffy changes places with her future self. she goes to the future where she and spike are happy and together where as the other buffy goes to one that they aren't. the future spike soon realizes that the buffy he has now isn't the one that loves him. while the past spike loves the fact that the buffy he now has loves him. she gives him a ring to reassure him that what happens in the future will eventually happen to him, that buffy will love him. when the past buffy returns, she sees the ring and gets jealous though its still technically her giving it to him.
