Syfy will air Alphas, a series about "ordinary people who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills." It is set to air next summer. Here's the news story.

The stars are David Strathairn. That's him in the sidebar photo. He was in LA Confidential and The Spiderwick Chronicles. Other stuff, too.

Syfy picked this show over Three Inches. It was about a guy who can move stuff with his mind three inches. See, that's where they got the name Three Inches. He joins a team of good guys who all also have powers, led by James Marsters. Details about that show are here.

His mother was Andrea Martin from SCTV. She was excellent as Edith Prickley and in "Indira," a parody of Evita. But never mind that now, the show isn't airing. the pilot was filmed, and Syfy said it's not dead yet. The star is Noah Reid. He was on Strange Days at Blake Holsey High. But most importantly, he was Screwy on Rolie Poly Olie. I just want Screwy to work with Spike and Edith Prickley. He deserves that.

Well, that's lame! I was looking forward to a new show with James! I don't know about SyFy lately. They moved Caprica and SGU from Friday to Tuesday, so they have to go up against some of network TV's highest rated shows. Caprica is now canceled and SGU is struggling. Furthermore this has hurt Sanctuary, which still airs Fridays, as it broke up a strong line-up when those three shows were paired together. I think SyFy and Fox (Dollhouse, Firefly) could use some coaching on how to effectively schedule their programs. It's always the shows I like!

Darn it, I was hoping that JM would be in a series. Guess we'll never get to see what he did for this show then. Grrrrr.

From what I have been reading Alphas is being produced in house so it may be more cost effective for SyFy to keep that one. That being said it maybe gives me some hope that Three Inches is now free to be shopped around to other networks -- maybe TNT or USA -- I would love to see it picked up by one of those since they have both come on strong producing their own quality programming.

I hold out no hope for SyFy as a network. I cant when Sharktopus or was it Octoshark was the big movie for the weekend. They missed a big draw not picking up Three Inches with both James and Kyle Schmid inthe cast. As good an actor as David Strathirn is -- I dont believe he has the kind of fan base that the other 2 have and wont generate the numbers the network is looking for.

For Horror and SciFi programming I now look to the Chiller network.
