I read this story years ago and can't remember much but I think its set in season 4... Spike comes back to kill Buffy and to do so he pretends to be in love with her and she falls in love with him... Angel appears on the scene and confronts him, which Buffy overhears and goes to Spike offering to let him kill her if it was all just fake when he cracks and realises the feelings he was pretending to have were real

both two very good stories but no, sadly not, pretty close tho, in the one Im thinking of there was no seq and they ended up together, after buffy goes to him and tells him he can kill her if it was all fake on his parts, spike realises he loves her and they work it out, thanks tho

That's the only story I could think of that was in Season 4 with what you said. I hope you find it. I really want to read it too.

Is it To Kill the Girl and it's sequel You have to Love Her by Sandy? I don't recall the scene you mentioned but they are set in Season 3 & 4.
