Buffy has dug herself out of her grave and is at home w/ Dawn & Spike. The Scoobies show up and try to get Spike to leave, but Buffy has Spike stay and sends them off.

My "147 Days" fits that description (except Buffy doesn't throw them out, she just asks for Spike and lets him take care of her.
In "Someone Will Pay" Giles is around and he brings Spike back in to take care of Buffy. He's the one who tells the Scoobies what they've done.

Thanks, one & all. I've reread those and unfortunately, while wonderful, none are the one I'm looking for. The one I have such a vague memory of is longer than a one-shot, but no where near as long as Orgins. And again, it's such a vague memory, I might be mixing up a couple of different stories to suit me.

What if Giles had not left yet when the Scoobies brought Buffy back; what if he found Spike just after Xander pushed him against the tree? Might things have gone differently?
