I think they are both close to the person who dies. Pretty sure one is related (spike) and one is not (buffy.) It might be Giles who dies. I feel like he is somehow involved in this story. COMPLETELY AU. I don't remember the specifics but they are called to the reading of the will and for some reason they both have a claim to the house (which is on a huge private estate) which they'd both like to inherit. Maybe there is some kind of competition set up? Like... where they have to stay at the house each for a month? Or whoever leaves first looses? Something like that. I think there is a butler or lawyer hanging around to enforce the terms (might be Giles again...)
Since neither of them will leave they are forced to deal with each other on this estate (might have been the plan of the deceased all along mwahahaha.) I don't remember what Spike does but I think Buffy is a jeweler and she has made one of the small shacks on the estate her temporary studio. I know she was working on some kind of MAJOR beaded necklace with exquisitely detailed work that I think spike creeped on and had the thought that she somehow managed to captured fire in precious and semi-precious stones. At first they hate each other. Eventually they start warming up to one another. I know the last time I read this it was a major WIP and it might still be one. Last I read (which was really forever ago... Ive been at this since 2004 guys...) her necklace had just been ruined in an act of sabotage. She was devastated and spike was enraged and they couldn't figure out who had done it.
