S6 stories where Spike leaves, knowing the situation isn't good for either of them

I'm sure the subject has been beaten to death, but I'm looking for a specific strain, where Spike realizes his relationship with Buffy is not doing her (or him) any good, makes a mature decision to leave, and follows through at least temporarily.
I'd prefer if the catalyst is NOT when Buffy beats Spike down in the alley, though I know there are some excellent fics there.
Can anyone help?
