Xander gets a reality check

I read Unexpected by Passion4Spike last week and loved it. I especially loved the scene early on when Spike gives Xander a good talking to, saying something about how can Spike, her mortal enemy, have more compassion for Buffy (who just had to kill Angel at the end of season 2) than Xander, her supposed friend. He also puts his fist through the wall near Xander's head. There are so many things I loved about Xander in the show, but his feelings about Buffy and how he has the right to judge her is a real problem.

Other notable Xander takedowns I have read:
Buffy and Dawn at the Bronze in Spike's Will Be Done 'verse by Tales of Spike
Some story by Arianna Whitewolf where Angel and Spike make the point that Xander can't keep up with the Slayer sexually (although very extreme)
A story by DreamWeaver (I think) where Spike goes back in time and calls Xander on his unrequited lust for Buffy (among other things, it is a really great story)

Can you make some more recommendations? I like it when the point is made that Buffy is a supernatural force in her own right that needs her equal in strength as a partner. Also, Xander needs to be called on his hypocritical BS. I still can't get over how everything was hunky-dory after he called up Sweet--people died! And let's not forget the hyena episode--ever!

Hm...I'm not much for bashing Xander, but there's a wonderful fic that has him accept and come to terms with both his feelings for Buffy and her feelings for Spike- and it's quite a bit of torture for poor Xander, too, which I'm guessing you'd like - Strangers by Sosa Lola.

I'd also recommend almost anything by Dreamweaver if you're specifically looking for that kind of anti-Xander fic.

Thanks so much. It's not so much bashing Xander as it is that he is usually the loudest anti-vampire voice of the group. In so many ways, he was the heart of the group--I love the scene he has with Dawn in season 7 when she is feeling a little jealous that Amanda is a potential, but she is not. But in the show and certainly in a lot of fanfic, he is the loudest anti-Spike character. In earlier seasons it makes sense, but after Spike helps Tara with her family and takes care of Dawn after The Gift, it is just crazy, especially in light of Anya's fond remembrance of her glory days. If there is a fic out there where someone else is that irrational unyielding voice, and that person gets a proper set down, I'm good with that as well. I will check out your rec. Thanks again.

I've never really seen Xander as that anti-Spike. Yeah, when he slept with Anya Xander was out of control, but he was pretty much broken by then. Interestingly, I think that Xander's hatred of Spike is more fanon than canon- it's been analyzed here by the same author. Xander's primary argument with vampires is generally about Angel, post-Angelus, which is pretty reasonable.

And again, not to be off topic, I'm wracking my brain for another Xander-bashing fic...the sequel to Sensation by AJ Hofacre, The Girl With Kaleidoscope Eyes, has Xander put down and away, I believe.

'Fixing the Factors' by Immortaly Spuffy at EF, not sure if it is here, has a Xander intervention of sorts. It's a long fic with several of the characters, if not nearly all of them, having interventions. It also has it's definate spuffy story arc.

Also well worth checking out are Spike's Will Be Done by TalesofSpike at Bloodshedverse and No Such Thing as Coincidences by All4Spike on this site.
Both are rather long series about Buffy and Spike Claiming each other in Season Six and both have several interesting scenes dealing with Xander's reactions to them being together.

Also worth checking out is Addie Logan's stories, esp. A Pirate's Life for Me, Bad Medicine, Tempt Me Not, and World on Fire. All of these are on this site.

I've always thought Xander was just jealous of any male who Buffy was willing to look at twice. Granted he did eventually ease off on that, but the only time I can remember him being at all positive about any guy that was in her life was when he talked her into going after Riley.
Yes, a lot of her dates were not good for her but Xander was consistently negative even when the only thing to go on was having a Y chromosome.
