I am just reading The Great Advantage of Being Alive by EnigmaticBlue and I wondered if there were other fics where Spike is turned human within the main plot, not just as part of the end of the fic, up to season 6 (so not as a Shanshu/end of series/AtS setting).

I've read Humanitus by sabershadowkat too a while back but can't think of others. The fic search ladtpeyton posted (for a Mohra turning for Spike in S6) is what made me look for these early turning human fics. Hopefully that one will ring bells for someone too.

I found a whole heck of a lot of ways to find Human Spike when I was searching for my Mohra demon fic last night when I googled the phrase "Spike turns human"

I also finally found the Mohra demon fic I was looking for so that's posted on the entry to my query.

I'll definitely look these through and at the Mohra one you found. At a glance, it seems a lot of these are S7, post BtVS, post AtS or Shanshu which I didn't want to include in this rec.

It is S1-S6 BtVS (at the very latest, preferably S1-S5) that I'm looking for.

There are a few really good gems there, though, and don't be fooled by the title. For example, Sideways Shanshu looks like it would be post series but it actually takes place right after The Body.

My favorite of the lot, though, would have to be Mustang Sally and RivkaT's Serious Moonlight. It's part of the Bowiebaharata Series, but can be read as a standalone.

Thanks ladtpeyton, I will have a good look through and check the season settings. I am really, I suppose, looking for ones pre-soul. Turning human is, in many ways, a further step from becoming souled so, although I do still like those fics, I'm more in the mood for the bigger jump without the souled stage in the mix.

The first two are the ones I originally mentioned. The ones after are those from the suggested links which appear to be unsouled/preS7 ones. Virtually all of these are S6 though and I really, really was hoping for S1-5 so any more recs would be gratefully received.
