I'ts Spuffy but ... Spike befriends Tara before eventually returning to Sunnydale...

It's definitely Spuffy.

After Spike leaves in Season 2, (either he left w/o Drusilla or they broke up shortly afterward) he's pretty much driving east across America and comes across Tara. He saves her from her father, I think. They become very good friends, Spike pretty much restraining his vamp nature.

They eventually come to Sunnydale when Tara comes there for college. It's pretty much Spike/Buffy and Tara/Willow although Buffy is very distrustful of Spike at first.

I have been searching for this for a few days. Either I'm not using the right search terms (either here or on Google) or there's just too many fics to wade through...
