Claimed Buffy attempts suicide because she feels when unchipped spike feeds

I believe Spike and Buffy are claimed. That's the only way this makes sense. I do know that Buffy could feel what the unclipped Spike felt when he fed and she couldn't stand it. She decides that she can't live like that so she will end it. Before she can kill herself Spike feels what she has done and saves her. Any ideas??
