Everybody knows the horrible beating Buffy gave Spike, right? To this day I still can't believe how the authors could have Buffy do something like that and then have her behave as if she had merely slapped him, especially since he didn't do nothing strictly wrong... I mean, even though she considered him not a man, he was still a sentient being! Even though she was very much screwed up in that period, she being the good guy should have realized at least AFTER the fact that there was something wrong with what she did!

Anyway, I think you've already understood that I'm looking for fics where Buffy has a more human -yes, "HUMAN"!- reaction to what she did, but please, nothing too OOC (actually I think what she did or rather didn't do in canon was somehow too far fetched and OOC!). Also I'd like it to have a good characterization.

This is a work-in-progress, and I haven't read it in quite a while, but to the best of my knowledge, Buffy regrets what she's done to Spike, and has unknowingly entered into a portal. Hijinks ensue. Not sure how OOC it is, as sometimes I've had to tilt my head and squint to make certain events add up, but she's a wonderful writer who really tries to keep the characters true while placing them in some very out of canon situations. I don't think it's quite the fic you had in mind, but it could be worth looking at.
