The fic I am looking for there is a scene where Buffy and Spike are at Angel Investigations and Spike is pushing Angel, challenging his sire. Buffy has stepped back to let him do it himself. Spike keeps pushing Angel to see that his attitude is still to be dominant. Angel is with his soul in tact but he gets angry and threatens Spike, they essentially show him that he has it in him to be like that.
It may be the same fic where they are running from the council who are trying to assassinate Buffy and blow up the mansion because Giles lets them know where she is. Spike ends up killing travers in the desert in that one.
