Any you-have-to-read-it-even-if-it-is-a-WIP ?

There are some very good ones listed here, but there are a few more I'd love to see finished. The top of that list is the third story of Mary's Journeys series. I'd give my spot in hfil to read that.
Another is the completion of An Englishman Abroad. So many insights into Buffy, Spike, Anya and Giles, but we're left with so much of the story left to be told. Fluff and angst in the same story, and both are handled well--what's not to love? Aaargh but it's frustrating!
The last is all human, and every kind of fluffy cute: pattyanne's Acting the Part. Who doesn't want to read more about a Spike who'd have fun at Disneyland?

They are definitely a permanent WIP - she also published a draft of part three, how she would have continued it in lieu of actually finishing it for those who were interested.

I'm with you, I rarely read WIP anymore. it's too Frustating to be left hanging. But you're right there are some great ones. Two of my favorites have already been listed but I will second their recommendations for Acting the Part and Aloof Rocker kryptonite. The other two I'll recommend are

Ah, the dreaded WIP. I now avoid them like the plague because there are so many wonderful stories unfinished and I've spent hours trying to track down possible other parts. I actually joined Live Journal for this reason alone

First up have to second Starmouse and Helga Von Nutwimple recs and The Truce is a standout! Mary's and Nan Dibble's epics are in a class of there own too.

A Dying Dream by Europanya

Canon through BtVS, AU for AtS, season 5. A decade after closing the Hellmouth and doing time in Hell, Spike is living in San Francisco, a lone vampire in a world nearly wiped clean of demons, when Buffy unexpectedly finds her way back to him.

This is just such a mystery - and wonderfully written (tho angst ridden) Is it or isn't it? Please let me know.


Not My Beautiful Sequel by Herself

Obviously a sequel to Not My Beautiful House - which is fabulous all on it's own. It's also a locked community so I'm not sure if anyone else can read it. Still it's so darned good. I love the idea of Canon Spike and Buffy in the same place as FanFic (in this case Bittersweet) Spike and Buffy. But WHAT HAPPENED????

My guilty pleasure - because I usually find SlaveFic a bit ooky - is Buyer Beware by Just Sue

It leaves off just when everything has built to a crescendo. Is Angel really a good guy? Ethan Rayne? Giles? It's just at the nail biting stage. Weeping readers abound (While I'm in ooky territory, however Twilight Child's The Worst Betrayal is also a cracker adventure...another time )

The Deadly Hook has a number of WIP's that make you wish you could send out a muse. Jack The Giant Killer, Action Figures and Fashion Dolls are both parts of series so the first parts are there but the sequels remain tantalisingly unfinished. She does the best 'voice' ever. Her LJ list is here.


Throstle's Midnight Train To Georgia is a sequel again for 'Try a Little Tenderness' and 'When a Man Loves a Woman' so the first two can give you alot of great reading before you 'hit the wall'. These are tremendous stories well worth the time.


In Sheeps Clothing by The Bear

After returning chip-free from Africa Spike finds himself recruited by a group of demons heading the the hell mouth. They need a slayer slayer and he's just the vampire for the job.

I love all The Bear's stories and 'Prophecy and Warmth' is one of my favourite 'single' Spuffy Fanfics ever. 'In Sheeps Clothing' has a great premise - it's just never been finished.


Out of Joint by Sharelle

The events of the AtS episode "Destiny" go very differently . . . . Spike believed Angel had sold his soul to W&H. He never considered that powerful evil forces were plotting to use him as their champion instead...by giving him exactly what he wants.

This is soooo good - all time jumpy and everyone is in it. Maybe someday the lovely Sharelle will honour us with more.

A final one is A Parliament of Monsters by Rahirah

Of course, this is the third novel in the Barbverse, and Barb has written well beyond this point - and is making a concerted effort to finish this particular one right now. It's kind of like a missing puzzle piece or the hidden 'Easter Egg' on a DVD. It will give you all the detail for what came after.

However a side note is, I kinda don't want her to finish this because she may leave the fandom if she completes her world - none of us want that.

Master by Aurora....its an AMAZING read but be ready for disappointment for the abrupt stop. I think the reward of reading it makes up for that disappointing feeling. I've read this story at least a handful of times so yeah, its worth the read even though its a permanent wip.

Here are some others I recommend. I too am wary of reading incomplete fictions because you are left with questions thus frustrated, but I read them only because I saw others had recommended them.

One of my all time favorite fictions which I've been waiting to see if gets completed is Mafia Mistress by Spuffy_obsessed (NC-17), all human in the crime world and so well written. I'm still hoping it will be finished as the last chapter 36 was added some time after the previous one; am dying to find out how it will conclude.
Summary: Hank Summers is the head of the Summers Mafia which is based in L.A. William "Spike" Giles is the co-leader for his family's mafia branch in L.A. as well while his dad, Rupert Giles is at the head base in England. Hank and Spike need to alliance against the other two main mafias. Spike takes an interest in Hank's oldest daughter Elizabeth Summers a.k.a. Buffy. In exchange for loyalty between the two men Spike demands for Buffy to be his mistress maybe even possible wife and Hank agrees. What will Buffy do when she is forced over to a man she thinks is just as horrible as her father and she is left to lead the life of a mafia leader's mistress. Spike is intrigued by her innocence with mix of her stubborn streak and a mouth that seems to always put him in his place. Will Spike be able to tame her and get her to live with the life he leads or will she just shun him for the rest of their lives?

Another great crime world fiction is Girl with Stars by Anaunthe (60 chapters , NC-17).
Summary: All Human. Sparks fly when Buffy Summers meets successful business man Spike Thorndale. Unfortunately, Spike is a suspected art thief, and it's Buffy's job to collect evidence against him. Already emotionally involved, things get worse when Buffy's evidence is used to implicate Spike in connection with three brutal murders � one in China, one in Romania, and the last in New York.

A great all human work place fiction is Murphy's Law by Im_bloody_English (28 chapters, NC-17). The verbal banter/fighting between Buffy & Spike is so perfectly captured.
Summary: You know what it means... whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. 'Murphy's Law' comes into play from the moment our two favorite blonds meet despite any initial attraction to one another. What's the result when a womanizing genius and a prudish workaholic are forced together in every way with no choice but to deal with each other 24/7? Tons of UST! Will it ever get resolved, or will they kill each other first? .... "Tell me somethin', pet. Wha's the real reason for your knickers bein' in a twist aside from the possibility you put your plug in sideways?" .... "The fact you're still breathing is number one on a very long list of reasons and oh-my-God... crude much?" Romance, comedy and mild angst.

Also Take a Chance by Witchiepoo (34 chapters, NC-17) is a great all human fiction and well written; it leaves off in a good space.

A lovely historical fiction is Against All Odds by dusty273 (24 chapters, NC-17). How William & Elizabeth meet and his pursuit of her is beautiful. Love that Winifred is William's sister and the budding relationship between her & Wesley. What happened to Angel and who is the mysterious man at the end?
Summary: Buffy Summers is a vibrant, passionate young girl in love for the first time in her life with Angel O'Connor, to whom she's secretly engaged. When he has to go back to his native Ireland to take care of his business, fate intervenes and she meets the very daring and impulsive Duke of Aurelius, Spike. From the moment he lays eyes upon her, he decides he wants her for himself and sets upon making it happen. Will Spike get what he wants, and if so, at what price?

Another historical fiction I enjoyed was Southern Comfort by Lady Anne (26 chapters, NC-17), so well written.
Summary: Charleston in the 1850s - Elizabeth Crawford doesn't think much of men in general, they've always let her down. Will the dashing Englishmen William Montgomery be able to change her mind? Or is he willing to try?

An adorable fiction is Sugar and Spike and Everything Nice; that's what little boys are made of by lovesperoxide (13 chapters, NC-17). Who doesn't love wonky spells and a Scooby member becoming a child.
Summary: In an attempt to lend a helping hand, a spell by Willow goes awry and leaves Buffy with an unexpected, but quite adorable handful.

Thank you so much for letting me know that a new chapter was added to Take a Chance; it was added this year after so long that I'd given up that it would be updated. BTW, I should correct what I said; leaves off in a good cliffhanger.

To answer your question where the others leave off so everyone knows:
Mafia Mistress - although Spuffy are together, there is a big conflict brewing with the rival mobs. Overall it is so well written and developed plot & character wise. Plus Buffy is a ballet dancer, aawww.
Girl with Stars - leaves you in a major cliffhanger but it is well written I enjoyed overall
The Favourite - it leaves off with hope but you wonder what will happen with Spuffy and if the rival sheik might interfere
Murphy's Law - defintiely ends in a satisfying place, one might say climactic (excuse the pun)
Take a Chance - as I mentioned leaves off in a cliffhanger but there is hope. In addition to Spuffy, throughout is great on how the supporting folks & relationships are developed (Cordy & Lindsey w/ the restaurant; surfer Riley; pals Lorne, Willow, Tara)
Against All Odds - it is so beautiful and descriptive overall. It leaves off with a happy Spuffy couple but you know there is something brewing with Hank Summers & the mysterious stranger that will put a kink to their future.
Southern Comfort - it left off with a few unresolved plot points but they were so close to being addressed. I thought 2 more chapters could have completed the story.
Sugar & Spike...-it leaves off with Spike still not fully grown, but it is humorous through out with how everyone reacts to Spike as a baby & growing into a child.
