post-series human Spike

The story I'm looking for is set either post-BtVS or post-AtS, not sure which. Spike wakes up human in the desert, and the only clue he has is the amulet. He winds up in some small California town where he walks into a diner and orders a huge meal, then calmly tells the waitress he doesn't have any money so she'll call the police.

I know how it is to want to read a story again but neither remembering title or author...
