Spike Has Anmesia - Thinks He's William

Spike has amnesia and I'm pretty sure Buffy and/or Giles is keeping him in some sort of basement cage thing. Spike thinks he's William (and I'm about 80% sure he's still a vampire though) and somehow (I'm sure there's some plot point explaining it) they get it into their heads that the only way to make him remember is to give him something he's always wanted.

Buffy tries telling him she loves him and it doesn't work. They call in Angel who tries to tell him he's 'proud of him' and stuff like in a fatherly way and then tries kissing him. Neither work and of course poor William is horrified by being kissed by a dude and very confused as to what's going on.

I cannot recall what exactly works to bring his memory back but I think his true desire was like 'freedom' or something?

I don't think it's When a Slayer Cries. Spike doesn't have amnesia in that one. It sounds extremely familiar to me but I can't remember ...GAH! Off to research...

I'm pretty sure I found it. I think the fic you're looking for is The Center by thedeadlyhook.

Ahh! That's it, thank you Peyton! No wonder I couldn't find it, I didn't remember it being part of a series at all, haha.
