there's a story I'd like to reread but I just remember bare bones. Buffy and Spike are mated -- and I don't think they know it. For some reason, Spike's goes to LA and Angel captures, chains, and starves him.

Buffy goes all slayerly feeling his pain. She takes her mother's car and storms off without explanation to rescue Spike. Angel tries to stop her from releasing Spike and she makes it clear she'll kill Angel if he gets in her way.

This sounds so familiar, but I've read so many claim fics I can't narrow it down. Any idea what season it takes place in?

I know that I have read this story I'm pretty sure it was on bloodshed-verse.
I've been searching the claim fics but haven't come across it as yet, do you remember anymore about this story?
I've been trying to remember more but honestly I've read so many stories this one is escaping me.

Me too! I know I read one but can't remember which one. Even a season number would help.

I don't know if this is a part of the story you are looking for but I remember reading a story where Spike gets attacked in a cemetery (his and by Riley?) Buffy is a home and feeling his pain goes to him. I think she is in slayer mode and takes him back to her house. Unfortunately I don't remember title or author. Hope this helps.

It would definitely have been Season 4 or 5 because Angel had already relocated to LA and started his helping the helpless thing. And Joyce was still alive.

Spike was definitely held captive by Angel but I don't remember why he went to LA in the first place.

Wish someone could help us find this one - I would love to read it. Any suggestions on how to use the advance search to try and find this one?

Does this story involve Lindsey who eventually tried to help Spike and Buffy? I do remember reading a story but it's been years where Angel or Angelus possibly even Dru or Darla torture but it could be Buffy who is taken captive and tortured and Lindsey helps end it all.

I think it is Love in Vein, part one, by Bittenandstaked.
Set pre-Harsh Light of the Day, beginning of Season 4. Spike rescued Buffy, when she was attacked by a demon. She accidentaly claimed him, but they didn't realized it at first. In fact, Angel rescued him after Spike was attacked, but when Buffy found beaten Spike chained in Angel's basement in LA, she considered Angel the attacker... (chapter 8).
