I'm searching (again) for a fic i was looking for a couple months ago, and this forum found it for me- but with the re-vamp (no pun intended), the archives got deleted.
It had the ghost of Merrick, and a partial claim with Buffy/spike. Willow was starting to become superwitch (i think they call her a Black Siren in the story), and Xander is nice to spike.

Anyone remember this?

Crash ,could that be "Old Friend Long Gone" by darkrivertempest? It sounds like it.
