In Season 4 or 5. Ethen does a spell on Buffy that makes her behave like Ripper. Buffy runs off with Spike. Angel senses Ethen and tie him to a chair. When the spell ends Buffy leaves Spike and comes back heartbroken, believing that Spike doesn't love regular Buffy.
