S6 - Spike helps Buffy but she hurts him again

I'm trying to find a fic where all I can really remember is that it is a S6 story where Spike tells Buffy that she should apply to the Watchers Council for payment and when she gets the letter saying they agree she hugs Spike but then is quite nasty to him and says that she could never love him and he gets really upset and (I think) leaves. It does have a spuffy ending though.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any help is gratefully acknowledged!

Summary: After Buffy beats Spike up in 'Dead things' he goes off in a huff, ends up at Angel's... then there's a prophecy... and Buffy comes looking for him...

I've had a quick look and I found the scene that is similar, however it's not the one I'm thinking of (thanks for the reminder about this series though!! I've put it on my re-read list!!).

The situation I'm thinking of is that Buffy was in difficulty and Spike suggested that she write to the Watchers Council (I'm pretty sure he helped her with the wording) but then the issues of intimacy came up (not to sure if it was after the kiss or the full-on adults only moment in Smashed!!) and they were rather estranged but then the letter came, Buffy (after telling Dawn I think) rushed over to Spike's to tell him. She hugged him and then pulled back and did the whole "your soulless I can't love you" bit and Spike gets ticked off.

I'm really sorry I can't think of anything else that might help identify the story.

I found it!!!!! It was Balancing Act by Brynn McK and can be found at fanfiction . net.

The summary is:-

Can a vampire without a soul find redemption? And can the Slayer ever really love him? Angst, drama, Scoobies, minor brain surgery, with a little humor and a few warm fuzzies along the way. Buffy/Spike, of course. COMPLETE.

Spoilers Through As You Were, though we can probably assume this all takes place after Season 6-all has been resolved with the Troika, Xander and Anya, Willow and Tara, etc.
