Hey, all! I've gotten some great recs from this site, so here goes another request. I'm not a big fan of the whole claim thing. I've read a lot of great fics that use it, but to me it just doesn't seem likely that the show wouldn't have mentioned something like that if it existed. At the same time, if you want Spuffy to live happily ever after (and who doesn't!), then you have to get around that pesky immortality issue somehow.

So what are some good stories that solve the problem in unusual ways, whether it be that Buffy is naturally immortal, or they discover a spell, or it happens by accident, or even that Spike becomes mortal again.

I would prefer solutions that actually sound plausible within the context of the story, and that don't just consist of some author hand-waving.

One good one i know is Whispers in the dark by Spikes_slayer08 i can't post links but you can find it here on the Spuffy realm. Spike does claim Buffy in this but thats not what gets the around the "immortality issue"


Summary: Set end of season 2 goes off canon just before Becoming Part 1.
When Spike finds he can walk again, he goes to Buffy to make a truce, coming together to put a stop to Angelus and Drusilla's plans but when Spike shows up at Buffy's house one night to talk strategy he is horrified to find Buffy beaten, bloody and raped on the bathroom floor a snarling Angelus standing over her.

After saving her life he finds the once vibrant slayer is now broken and scared. Will he be able to save her? Or will she be lost forever?

Its a good read.

The Unexpected Universe Series does have a claim, but that's not what solves the immortality issue ... when Willow brings Buffy back from the dead, she uses Ben's/Glory's blood in the spell and Glory's immortality is transferred to Buffy ... it was actually an accident on Willow's part. Buffy can be killed, but she won't age, just like a vampire. I never had anyone tell me that they thought it was implausible...
