Great chapter with so many emotions. it seems that Buffy just instinctively trusts Spike with her feelings. God to see Spike finally realizing how hard he's falling for her. Can't wait for the next chapter:)

If I may, I would like to address Cas' question myself. I hope that this is okay.

I was married to a real monster of man, I mean really. However, there were times when my emotions overtook me so and I cried for him, not for myself. I cried for him because I saw the miserable little boy inside of him and it broke my heart. Now Riley is not a miserable little boy in this story but he is a man who Buffy was married to. That's a big thing and no matter how much a woman might love another man later on, her first love is very significant.

I wanted to review this chapter in particular because I found it so very poignant and sad.

It made me cry.

Author's Response: Having been through abusive relationships myself, I'm very sorry to hear that you can empathize. But in Buffy's case, at least in my story, that's how she feels. He was a good person and a good husband. She loved him, she married him, he died. I hated to put her through it, but she had to face her grief head-on. Thank you so much for all your reviews. I'm really enjoying your story. Loved how Spike disliked Xander until he found out he wasn't competition and no reason to be jealous of. Love how the sparks are flying between Buffy and Spike already.

I'd really like to thank you over how you've portrayed Riley. In a few sentences he came and went, which is obviously important to the story but you didn't put him down or make him to be a monster. Thank you for that. Far too many people delight in Riley bashing and I happen to be a big fan of his.

i'm glad that she was able to turn to him in a moment like that... and that he understood. It clearly meant there is more than a little flirtation, lemonade and cold showers... (not that i wouldn't mind an accurate description of one of those, though... lol)

while reading, i could feel the angst as an almost physical sensation together with buffy... and when she found the body it was quite horrifing... like violent death is, i suppose...

i should mention too that this line "feeling that piece of her—the piece that belonged solely to Riley—wash away in the rain" made me feel sad for riley. for a whole minute, at least. Believe me... this is a great accomplishment! :D

Wow. Wouldn't have thought Buffy had loved Riley so much - or is it only now looking back on it she feels that way (is that too cynical?). Anyway, great, riveting chapter.

Author's Response: I've gotten some raised eyebrows on this one. In the show, Riley was a good person who did dumb things sometimes. In my story, he was Buffy's first love, someone she cared so much for she wanted to spend forever with him. When that's taken away, It hurts. Bad. Thanks so much for your review!

Awe it's good to see an update :)
Spike has a lot of work to do if the car should ever look as new *g*
Sure *grins* Spike is only removing his shirt to cool better off drinking the lemonade.
The scene with the De Soto was fun :)
But poor Buffy will have a very high water bill at the end of the summer. ;-)
