The idea that Spike would send months searching for something to protect Buffy is charming, and I like that you left her reaction to the imagination. I was a bit worried by the melancholy tone in the beginning of the chapter, but you ended it on a hopeful note.

Very nice note of hopefullness at the end-- I'm glad you didn't end it on the glowery note of Spike's own personal brood-a-thon. A very sweet, wonderful gift to give the Slayer. I hope you consider writing a sequel to this that picks up when she lays eyes on him again-- that could be smokin' hot!

Very sad-- sniff. It's kind of nice to see Buffy being the vulnerable one, here.

I hope this is seen as constructive criticism:
I don't know, even with the positive spin that my mind could come up with, it seemed a little rushed to me.
I know people have said sequel, but really it could be continued without a sequel. It just feels like there was so much more that could have happened, and things could have felt more complete.
Even with a "sequel" it would feel more like making another posting with the rest of the chapters.
I like the story, the end just didn't do it for me.

i smell a sequel :D

very nice story, but i really would have liked for there to be some closure between these two. This story doesn't feel finished.

Spike has gone for four month now ... and got Buffy a pendant that will protect her against magic. Nice gift.
But that is it, the end?
*sigh* It is too open for me to like it much. Like what about Buffy: Even if she dated an endless line of wankers, he found it unbearable to be apart from her Whom is Buffy dating if she is? What thinks Buffy of Spike leaving, what did she do in these month, does she miss him?
Even if the end is slightly hopeful regarding the Spuffy, it's is more open than I like it. I need my happy end you know? I've read in the comments that you will maybe write a sequel. When you do I reread this one again. Maybe I'll like the end better when you finished the sequel. That depends on how the sequel is ending. ;-)

An unexpected end to a story that begs a sequel. I'm sure many people acutally will beg for one, and while I'd love to read a continuation of this story, I find I kind of like the idea of a story that doesn't tie everything up in a neat little fluffy bow. I frequently enjoy it when they do, but often they get there too easily, and those stories tend to lose my interest. None of your stories has ever lost my interest. I like that this one leaves room for the imagination.

Should have known he couldn't stay away. Hope she likes her present, and perhaps realizes what she's lost, in order to save her heart. Lovely story. Leave one with a bit to think about. Thanks for sharing.

That sad irony that perhaps there hearts were in it long before they knew they were. A sad but believable possible ending for their little engagement. Great chapter.

i didnt understand this chapter at all
Author's Response: I'm not sure what you didn't understand. For this to be in character, spike and Buffy could't rush into a too sweet happy ever after. Spike went away in anger, found something to help Buffy through any magical problems she might have out of love, and now he's decided to go back to her. I'm planning a sequel to get them back together, but I still think this stands okay as it is. Thank you for reading it though. I appreciate it.

Oh, I hope you write a lovely sequel to this story. Fantastic.
Author's Response: I don't know about lovely, but there will be a sequel. I just have to gel a few more ideas together and off I go! Thanks, Nicki.

Yay! he's going back! right? he IS going back, right? how could he have let four whole months go by? why didn't Buffy go after him? well, I guess she didn't really know where he was, but still...NEED SEQUEL!!!! Please please please!!!
Author's Response: LOL, that's the plan. Of course this IS Spike, so leeway must be allowed for it to pan out the way its supposed to. The four months...hmmm, reconsidering that a little but he had to have time to let her live, let ehr be with beefy no-brain Riley, and find a warlock who could give him what he wanted in the amulet. Ultimately he stayed away for her--because he's that kind of guy. Okay, so that's more OOC than I'd ordinarily like, but it fits. LOL. You guessed it! There is a sequel in the works. No guarantees on how fast I cna write it, but be on the look out. Thank you so much for commenting throughout. It was wonderful to hear from you.
