Leaving Buffy and Spike's relationship out of it, this is the best thing Spike can do right now, anyway. He needs to be away for a bit to let his mind catch up to all that's happened. And Buffy has so much on her plate, with Willow needing her, Dawn needing her, the mess with Xander, and Giles and Anya looking to her anyway because everybody always does. There isn't time for Spike right now.

I hope she respects his space and gives him at least a couple days.

Leaving Buffy just had to be... she did not keep her promises and Spike took her betrayal hard... I hope he finally finds some peace, I have not liked Angel much but in this story I like him heaps... Can't wait for the next chapter, I had a lump in my throat by the end of the chapter

Hmm, I found the line, "her Watcher or his new lover" rather curious.... I mean, I knew they were headed in that direction, but I didn't know they had found the time to actually make it there.... or did I miss something?

And wow, Xander surviving a bullet to the head? What a twist! Completely unexpected.

And poor Buffy, Spike left. I wonder if she'll go after him or not.

well.....wasn't expecting that!!! but i'm not all that surprised. this needs to settle for a bit before buffy tryies to fix it. what wold she say if spike had been there? what good would it have done??? i think spike was right to leave with Angel. So, the whipping and flogging of Buffy comes next, right? Maybe some time on the rack where there can be ringside seats? I'm sure then everyone will forgive her for pulling Xander's trigger finger and making poor Spike cry.

Oh wait, OTHER people are responsible for their own actions and it's not all Buffy's fault. That's right.

Spike was stronger (a better person) then all the others; stepping in to save Xander of all people because he wants to save Willow (and Dawn, and Buffy).
If Xander really will kill himself then it will take the guilt of all the others having to kill him (including thinking bad about Angel if he was the one killing Xander).
Looking forward to find out if Xander is about to die or not. He can only be killed once. (Judged by the court for killing his parents by example. But then he wouldn't have to suffer and that's what the others wanted.)

Thing is: The police can hardly do something about it (accuse him). Only for the killing of his parents.

were there bullets in the gun? it'd be very unlikely for a hangun to be stored in a home while loaded so i guess we'll wait and see. i really loved spike's noble gestures and that willow came back to the real world so realistically. i love this story so much it's ridiculous.

As for Xander, wouldn't it be something if that gun is empty.

I love how it was beyond Willow's understanding that Spike, evil, souless Spike could have it within him to sacrifice himself for his enemy in order to save those he loved. Willow, a scooby, who was the soul, when they called upon the essence of the slayer to defeat Adam, couldn't even begin to embrace that kind of selflessness.

In any event, as long as Spike is safe, I think I will be happy with the result of this fic. I'm glad that Buffy has at least to some extent acknowledged, if only to herself, what she has always taken for granted as far as Spike is concerned. Hopefully that will be the first step toward a healthy relationship for them. Sure, she made mistakes - they all did - and although there may be forgiveness for those mistakes, the consequences still have to be faced. Xander may or may not survive, Willow has once again embraced dark magic and has to live with trying to kill her best friend, Buffy's relationship with Dawn is a bit fractured as is her relationship with Spike. It will be some time before she and Spike overcome everything that has come between them, especially considering they had barely overcome the hardships of their violent past to begin with.

At least Spike's not dust ...
