great update!
the behavior of spike is the one of an rebellious adolescent!!!! rebellion is against the paternal figure of angelus, clear that also there is resentment by the rape, and a bite of competicon by dominion i guess, the demostio of which his demon is not but small who the one of angelus
in the original Cannon, drusilla never shows a sincere interest in spike, daddy always the frist interest by her, this it is a change that I don't know where it can finish, william this beginning to have deep feelings by her, in my previous commentary, it mentions that this impossible for me, because unlike william of the original Cannon, this william experiment the true love, to the light of this, its relation with durusilla is single sad reflection of which it is the true love
it is this sense of lost what it makes take refuge in this false relation with dursilla?
or it is desire to experience the love again what it makes really fall in love with drusilla?
in truth drusilla loves william? because in the original Cannon, never it gets to happen...
too many questions, I hope that they clarify following undates!!!
great story! i love each detail
Author's Response: I'm so glad you like it, anabel. Thank you for taking the time to review. :)
You're right; Spike is very much a rebellious teenager in this. William was a man weighed down by responsibilities (business, home, mother, morals, etc). Spike, as a vampire, is freed of those burdens. He frees himself, even more, by refusing Angelus' domination of him. The rape was brutal, but Spike was able to see it for what it was and move on from there. He will not be bullied any longer. Each step on his journey is taking him just a little farther from the William he was ... and a little bit closer to the William (or Spike) he will become. After all, it is bringing him closer to Buffy.

Author's Response: Hopefully not too long. I'm going to try to have the chapter ready for posting by Friday, if the Muse behaves herself. Thanks for the review. :)

"However, for a moment, Angelus just gaped at the approaching mob. When his eyes shifted back to Spike, they were filled with disbelief.
“Goddamn it, William,” he said."--That face, I can see that face on Angelus, and can't help but laugh. He is truly the disapproving father that can't help but bail out his troubled, irresponsible son. So terribly the Spike that we always imagined, wreaking havoc and what not, simply because it makes things a challenge... and is a bloody good time! You've captured him so very well. I love watching him develop this persona. I look forward for the next installment, and the eventual reunion with his Elizabeth. A marvelous chapter in a magnificent story.
Author's Response: My inspiration for pretty much this entire chapter was the two minute mineshaft scene in "Fool for Love." I absolutely adored Spike's rebellious teenager vibe when he argued with Angelus. The two of them had wonderful chemistry together, very love/hate. And you're right, Angelus is very much the disapproving father in my story. Rocky times ahead for these two, I'm sure.
Thanks for the review. :)

It's wrong that I'm charmed by cheerful mass murdering Spike, isn't it. Yup.
But I do admire how you're navigating the continuity/discontinuity between his human and vampire selves.
Author's Response: No, it isn't wrong at all. I first fell for Spike when I saw him in "School Hard," when he was still an evil killer. It isn't real life, so we're entitled to like him even when he's bad. ;)
I'm glad you liked the chapter and thanks for reviewing. :)

Haha! I'm really enjoying William's transformation into Spike. And the way you write the characters is really spot-on.
Keep it up! I'll be eagerly waiting for more! :D
Author's Response: Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked the chapter. :)

FIRST EWWW, spikes showing affection for dru and is starting to care for her, i dont like it. second SPIKE IS SOOOO STUPID!!!! i cant believe that he keeps getting into fights with mobs and that now he and all of them have to face a huge mob. i love this story and am so happy that u updated. i really hope that they make it out of this in one piece and that if dru gets hurt it doesnt bering spike and dru closer together. also i hope that everything works out well and that he keeps williams love for elizabeth until they meet again. please update as soon as u can, im dying to read more. thanx
Author's Response: I'm sorry you don't like the Spike/Dru interaction, sarah g. He isn't in love with her; what he feels for her isn't romantic or passionate. But she's his sire and literally the only sympathetic member of their little "family." I think it's only natural for him to develop an emotional connection to her. At the moment, they're friends and partners. Spike feels affection and concern for her; he wants to protect her. But if you notice, his very reason for forgiving her for destroying his book was the memory of Elizabeth ... the realization that, had he been placed in a similar situation with Elizabeth, he would have wanted to lash out in the same way. I can promise you that at no point in this story will Drusilla become more important to Spike than Buffy has been, but that doesn't mean he will hate Drusilla either. There are different kinds of love in the world, and Spike is capable of each and every one of them.
Thanks for the review. :)

Fris than nothing: GRAET STORI!!!
Now, i read this storie twice, i’m thinking this spike it’s gona a develop a diferent personality from the spike from the original cannon, because, the original never experimernt real love, only from his mother, no from cecily or drusilla, he always be jealousy from the atentions betwen drusilla and angelus (her daddy) he really loves dursilla!!! Many of the conflics betwen thems comes from this. But this spilkes had the oportunity of enjoy real love, love and be love, he already had evrything he deram about, but unfortunately he lost’ it, this factor most afect the develop of his personality and caracter!!!!! For best? For worst? Thats depens of you, but if i lost somthig so bigger, i become bitter and hopelessly, his relationship whit drusilla most be afected too, now he most see her like a palid refleccion of what love, pasion and belogin means!!!
p.d. sorry for my english, im a good reader but not very well writting, sorry, my thin it’s the spanish
Author's Response: Don't worry about your English, anabel. I appreciate the review . I'm so glad you like the story, and I hope I can continue to make each chapter enjoyable for you. Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me what you think. :)

I love the atmosphere you're creating here with the development of Spike... and of course I'm desperately wanting to know what happened to Buffy and what the situation is back in the future... but of course that is exactly what you intended isn't it?
Impatiently awaiting more updates....
Author's Response: Yep, that's exactly what I intended. I'm evil like that. :P
I'm glad you like the story, even without Buffy. Thanks for reviewing!

rape is never a easy topic to put into a fic but you made it fit the story and you did not make it over the top or go into to of hardcore details. it seems William is trying to find himself and this allthough being horrible to happen to anyone will be a unlife changing event for him to move past from. I'm not sure how he will face the other now or if he will take all of his hiding habits and personality changes he has been hiding for so long from everyone else and just no longer care and get into everyones face with it. I am looking forward to the fall out effects from this happening to him. Great story does not seem to be rnough to cover it but great story.
Author's Response: I feel that the effects of the rape are more important than the details of it, so I did strive not to be too graphic in that respect. I know it was hard to read, but I'm happy to hear you understand why it took place and that it won't stop you from reading in the future. Thank you so much for the review. :)

Heartbreaking events and still so many thoughts of his love. This was a brutal chap. to read after I start this story last night and how it started out to getting to this point. It is really a battle of wills going on much more then just the act but it seemed to have to happen in orde for William to make a change.
I like this, it is log but so worth it do you have any other stories online? I would love to read any of your work.
Author's Response: I think a lot of people were shocked by the sudden change in tone from Part I of the story to Part II. I know this part is a little harder to read, but I'm so glad to hear that you like it anyway. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Right now, this is the only story I'm working on. I have another spuffy fanfic, but it's on indefinite hiatus until this one is finished. The other one needs a major overhaul, anyway. But when I get to working on it, I will definitely let you know! :)

Author's Response: Thank you! I want very much to stay true to the character, because my love for the character was what inspired me to write this. I'm so glad you think I am doing a good job. :)

I think I'm review # 1000!
How cool is that!
Ok this was a terrible thing to happen to William but he must have known on some level Angelus was going to hurt him sooner or later and I hope Spike not only gets even he never sinks to Angelus level!
Fantastic update more soon please!!!
Pretty please?
:D
Author's Response: I am working on an update as we speak, so hopefully it won't be too much longer. Thanks so much for reviewing and helping me hit that 1000 mark! :)

This gives new meaning to the word hate. Is Angels soul coming on soon? I hope he suffers like no other and the years fly by for William cause heis just in so much pain right now and everyones whipped dog.
Author's Response: Don't worry, I'm fairly certain William's days as a "whipped dog" are drawing to a close. :)
Thanks for the review!

OMG. I've reviewed many times before and don't really want to repeat myself but this story is just fabulous. I'm not even really missing the Spuffy (I know you'll get there eventually) because I'm hooked reading your take on what happens to William/Spike. You end this chapter still referring to William as William, I'll have to wait and see if he starts the next one as Spike now his hatred of Angelus has been born? Looking forward to more and more of this - asap PLEASE.
Author's Response: At the moment, William is still, technically, William. But that won't last, as we all know.
I'm glad you liked the chapter, Sam. I always love reading your thoughts, so thanks for taking the time to review. :)

Date: 04/19/2007 - 10:14 am Title: Chapter Thirty-Two
The defining moment between the two Aurelius demons: one dominating the other. Physical, violent, bloody. Debasement, with an audience. Angelus's strike to assert his control, his leadership, his power will, ironically, merely work the other way. Spike, left with his pain and humiliation is even now rational enough to understand that. In flaunting his power, Angelus loses his last vestige of admiration from Spike and, more importantly, the younger vampire's adherence to the expected pecking order of their quartet. There will be no more of that. Here, perhaps, is the birth of William the vampire, no longer the newest member of a family but just theirs now in name, not nature. Not any more. Here endeth Angelus's last lesson.
Your gripping, graphic chapter sees the emergence of Spike: argumentative, sarcastic, insightful and resolute. William would have crumbled under such base treatment. Spike learns from it; this harsh lesson frees him from the servitude of family that has been with him throughout life and beyond - that awful moment of capture brought not surrender, rather, his liberation.
Look forward to update.
Author's Response: I just loved reading your review, sue. It's like every single thing I was hoping to convey in this chapter you saw and understood implicitely. I can't tell you how great that makes me feel. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me such wonderful feedback. :)

I went and reread all of this story last night and I keep thinking with Buffy going back in time knowing what she did and then playing the role of Elizabeth and not telling William she knew him or knew he got turned in a lot of ways she is sort of irreversibly sort of responsible for a lot of the pain William goes through. She completely inadvertently changed every aspect of his life and then too his death and I'm not sure how well that is going to play out for her later down the line when they come face to face cause to really realize in full all of the awful things that happened to him to get to 120 plus years in the future again and see her again I do not think it will be a happy moment for him it be more like a complete betrayal by her when he has kind of immortalized her in his mind.
Ok this chapter was really like a meeting of two lions coming together cause I think A. realized W. was more then he anticipated probably up until now he thought of W. as nothing more then a toy of Dru's or a puppy he could teach new tricks. And then for W. to strike out at him and to actually knock A. to the ground the feud of the century was no on.
I am excited cause from here on out all the dynamics have changed.
Author's Response: That is a very astute observation. Buffy always knew the risks of becoming involved with William, and she did it anyway, without regard to what harm it might cause him. Naturally, that won't be without its consequences.
Thanks for the review. :)

The first sparks of Spikes rebellious nature and of things to come are about to happen. Just the fact that Angelus knew to taunt Spike with Elizabeths name gave me as the reader her enough reason to hate him even before the rape took place. I can see why Spike goes out of his way to become a thorn in Angel or Angelus side because of his hate towards him. Vampire dominance or the under belly of the evil worlds society rules Spike will have to become stronger to get his revenge. Overwhelming reactions to this update I am dying here for more.
Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it, luridmuse. Thank you for taking the time to review. :)

I am glad to see he is holding back on torturing unless needed and simply killing to eat now. He does not seem to want to become as devious and as evil as the others. Intense page and a lot of heartbreak but done with so much introspection of new Spike thoughts you give a real emotions and heart of the man in the monster. I think Drusilla did in a way want to comfort him cause on some level she too is just another victim of Angelus as well and God only knows what he did to her. This story continues to intrigue me and I want to read more of it all the time.
Author's Response: lol. Discerning fellow that he is, William has decided that only certain people are deserving of being tortured, but he doesn't mind killing the rest for revenge and food. Still, I think it does show a definite contrast between him and Angelus. It's a contrast that's always intrigued me and that I'm planning to explore in more detail.
I know the content of the chapter was hard to read, but I'm so glad you enjoyed it anyway. And I completely agree with you about Drusilla. She was an innocent victim once, and whatever she has become since has been molded by Angelus and, to a lesser extent, Darla.
Thanks so much for the review. I really love hearing your thoughts! :)
