Yay! An update!

I think you've done something really amazing: you've taken a character that your readers have grown to love and turned him into a frightening monster. I'm scared of what William will do, but I'm also frustrated because I know he can be better and I want him to be.

This story is fantastic. Update soon, please!

Author's Response: William still has compassion left in his heart. In fact, he has a huge amount of it. However, he feels it only for those he loves (Anne, Buffy, even to some extent, Matthew). He is either no longer capable or no longer willing to feel the same empathy for a stranger. I'm glad you appreciate the contrast to what William was and what he is becoming...and what he can become, later on. Thanks for the review. :)

GOD THIS NEW WILLAM IS DISGUSTING!!!!!!! i totally understand that this is important and needs to happen, but still ewww. i love this story and am so happy that u updated. i cant believe how much william is getting into hunting and his new family and i hope that by the time he and buffy meat up again a part of him will still be william and that he will still lover her. also hope that william doesnt come to love dru and gets rid of his feelings for buffy, he better hold ont to her memory and always miss her. i just hope that everything works out and they end up together and happy. please update as soon as u can, i cant wait to read more. thanx

Author's Response: I'm sorry you feel that he's disgusting. I completely understand why...and I'm so happy to hear that it has not chased you off completely. Just remember...Spike was born out of all of this. In the show, he started out a killer, and in my story, he begins no differently. And, consequently, I don't think you will be disappointed in the feelings William (and Spike) has for "Elizabeth." Thanks for your thoughts!

I love this story. This last bit is definitely creepy. I hate to see William so evil but in a way I am glad you aren't sugar coating him. It is all so tragic. I look forward to all your updates.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you feel that way, Fran. I know it's difficult to read, but I assure you (and everyone else) it is very necessary to the plot. Thanks for the feedback!

Okay, i'm taking a break now. i can't read this anymore, i'll just wait for part 3. sorry, but i don't know how some people can be expected to read about 20 chapters of william as a killer and with drusilla, it's just not spuffy to me anymore. so i'll just wait until it is spuffy again, i pretty much already know what happened in the past anyway. i really don't need to read it. i can tell that it won't be long before he forgets about her completely, he's already starting to feel more for drusilla and i can't handle angelus turning him into an even bigger monster. i guess it will be a while before i check out this story again. you're still a good writer, but this is just too much for me. i just have a hard time reading about him with anyone else, i'm too much about the spuffy.

Author's Response: I'm wondering if maybe you missed a couple of scenes? Because I can tell you, William is still in love with Elizabeth, not with Drusilla, in this chapter. I'm sorry you're having a hard time reading about this, but I did leave ample warning at the beginning of Part II that it would be this way. I do hope that you will return for Part III, but if you do, just know there will be some things that you don't understand in there, because you haven't read the development of Spike in this version of reality. Also, please keep in mind, readers, that Spike was evil. He was not a "Big Fluffy Puppy With Bad Teeth." He was a killer, and he remained a killer until the Initiative put a chip into his head. I am not going to sugar coat this for anyone. Spike in canon is a killer...Spike in this story is a killer. If you have a problem with this, then I'm not sure you totally understand the concept of "redemption." Thank you for your feedback, Callie. As always, I appreciate listening to your thoughts, even when I don't agree with them.

Are you Joss? Cause seriously, this is what you would expect from the series. Good writing for the Angelus and William relationship. I see you incorporated some things from 'Destiny' episode. Love it. So are you going to do the 'hiding in a mine shaft' scene and 'what's a slayer?' scene too? Hope so...and you add in your little wonderful 'fill in' scenes.

Really can't wait for the buffy scenes. How much longer will we have to wait? Hope not too longer.

Thanks for updating quickly. Keep it up.

Author's Response: Best compliment in the world, as far as I'm concerned, is to be compared to Joss Whedon. Thanks so much, u2fan. I really appreciate your feedback. :)

I think I am going to like Part 2 with no Buffy... I always felt that there was a great story in the William/Angelus relationship... I am looking forward to see how it pans out... Great chapter and update soon!

Author's Response: I'm glad you like it, Inarra! I'm fully expecting to duck flaming torches and pitchforks over the next several chapters, but it's necessary to the plot. And if you liked this one...I don't think you'll be storming my castle over the next. Thanks for reviewing!

Woah. A masterfully excecuted transformation. Our William is still in there, though, and I love you for that.

Author's Response: William will never die out completely, as we have seen in the canon of the show. But transformation is indeed necessary to his survival as a vampire. I'm glad you liked it. Thank you. :)

What a great build-up for the Spike/Angel relationship down the line...building up the respect that will one day be tempered with distrust.

I have been avidly reading this story since the very beginning, and I must say that this is probably one of the best works of fanfiction that I have read. The development of the plot is seamless, unlike most of its counterparts which lack a lot to be be desired. This story just seems to pull you in until you're addicted and begging for more. :) You have a gift, and I'm glad to see that you're not putting it to waste. :) I can't wait until you post the next chapter. I'm curious to see what Buffy's reaction is to being back home.

Bravo, once again :)

Wow... This was an amazing chapter. The way you described everything was just... delicious. Loved it so much, so fantastic-- and I'm really looking forward to seeing how William's beginning years as a vampire (before he manages to stumble upon Buffy again, as he undoubtedly will :D) play out-- again, this chapter was just amazing. :) Loved it so much!

Wonderful twist to your narrative. Your writing is absolutely gorgeous. Painful, at times, but I read to feel and no one makes me feel as much as you do! I've been wanting to ask you about another story, though: you wrote another fic called, I think, Falling, set in Season 3. The premise was that Willow's aborted love spell (meant for Dru) somehow reacted onto Buffy. I can't find that story anywhere now, and I remember when I read it that you hadn't updated it for more than a year. Have you abandoned it utterly, or might it make an appearance again? Thank you for your beautiful work, Alia

Author's Response: "Falling" is, unfortunately, on indefinite hiatus. I was struggling, trying to keep the two fics going at the same time, so I'm afraid I sacrificed "Falling" in order to work on FtTP. After I finish this story, I'm going to go back, revise and finish "Falling." I'm so glad you like both stories. Thank you. :)

To imagine what their affair should bring when he comes into it so lovesick from another. How it changes the dynamic, I can only wonder about the end result... Feeling wrongness only for when he betrays the memory of Elizabeth, such a powerful dynamic. I love it. Please update soon.

Dru... Despite everything we try, it seems we cannot change one's true fate. A sad night in an alley caused by a woman. A lovely turn of events. And how terribly moving his grief. An amazing chapter.

Author's Response: Fate is the perfect word for it. In fact, a word heavy with meaning, come Parts III and IV. Thanks for the review. :)

Poor newbie turned vamp Spike in wanting to go home only there really is no place that is home like the one you want to return to and even turning his Mom wont go the way he wants it to go either. I wonder what it will be like for him to meet the gang and how he will find himself along the way and get back to Buffy. I may be in the opposite side here in saying this but Drusilla may very well be exactly who William needed at that point in time. Now before anyone throws rocks lemme explain in her own way Dru loved Spike and they had a real relationship. It was not perfect but after the total anguish Elizabeth put him through with her disappearance he needs someone like Dru to help him start over sure she is crazy and all but she is also hid savior. I've always liked Dru cause she too was a simple girl with visions taken from her life and turned and then tortured by Angelus I always thought her and Spike were suited in their similarities. Hope you post more soon this is a very powerful story.

Talk about a panic waking up dead next to a dead dude you think Dru woulda... Well it is Dru come to think of it, it is exactly what she would do, Sort of like the doctor who made Frankenstein only interested in the result with no thought of the making of the monster. I thought it was great how you had William confusing Dru with his gone Elizabeth days and her touches and caresses and him just longing for her but then finding only Dru instead. A probably Dru is using her thrall a little into pulling William forward to do her will so his new side and vampire feelings or habits I guess I mean to say come forward. Even when he realizes he's dead and a vampire he's not really shocked but he does feel anger probably at her for now forever prolonging his emptiness and loneliness in a life/afterlife without her. Most likely William would have preferred a suicide to a eternity without his lady love. And now he's kinda stuck and unsure of what do do other then to follow her lead. I saw the need of having the blood lust scene with him and Dru makes total sense in the vampire bonding and so forth even on some level he knows she's using him he just no longer cares with the guilt he feels over thinking he was the cause of his loves death and probably on some level thinks this is what he deserves for not protecting Elizabeth. I think this is fantastic in your showing of the making of the monster in what used to be a caring loving man. I do feel badly for Anne she must be beside herself first with Elizabeth thought to be dead and now too her William. Like a great novel I look forward to turning the page on this and see what your next page will be. I read your post at the top of the page and people should keep in mind this is a Spike story first and Buffy second. But I think this is sort of the best part because for the loneliest time we had only Buffy's perspective and now we get to see all of William the good and the bad and how he struggles to become a master vampire and finds the will to move on after Buffy and survive.
Triumphant part 2!

Author's Response: I know this chapter was a little graphic, but I don't think it could have been any less so, given the subject matter. I'm glad you weren't put off by the scene between William and Dru at the end of the chapter. I was afraid people would be up in arms over it, but almost everyone who has reviewed understood the necessity of it, which is great. As always, I want to thank you for your wonderful review. I hope you continue to enjoy the story! :)

From the very beginning of his unlife Spike is unique. Instead of the typical mindless, ferociously hungry, homicidal fledgling, we have a confused and still grieving William. Then enter Dru, and I for one think that is a good thing. He never would have survived without her, I doubt he would have lasted 24 hours.

I adored your take on William and frankly I was heartbroken after his death in the last chaper. The poor guy never was able to find the comfort and ease that comes with loving and being loved. He never was never able to relax and bask in it. That just kills me. So I'm glad this update didn't come quickly. As silly as it sounds I needed the time to mourn him. I'm ready now to see Spike's evolution. But I will always love your William. Thanks for such a skillfully written story and take all the time you need to write it. It's worth waiting for.-Martine

Author's Response: Martine, I don't think that sounds silly at all. As a matter of fact, the reason this update took so long was because I developed writer's block to it. Not because I didn't know where the chapter was going--I had it all mapped out in my head. But I think that I, too, had to take a little time to mourn William. Thanks for the review. :)

how long will part 2 last? i'm just hoping it won't be over 20 chapters like the first part. i'm too impatient for my spuffy. i will continue this story because it's really good, but it will be hard for me to read about him with drusilla. i just hope you wouldn't make it completely like the show, which has spike turning his mother. i also hope he wouldn't really fall for drusilla, we know how much he loved her in the show, but i hope he'll never stop loving buffy. i like one idea that i read from someone's comment about spike eventually leaving drusilla and being on his own, hopefully not joining up with darla and angelus because he's bound to turn him into a monster. i have a feeling he'll completely forget about buffy then. i'm anxiously awaiting more.

Author's Response: Part Two will, in fact, be the same length as Part One (give or take a few chapters, of course). I know you're excited to see the reunion with Buffy, and I know how hard it is to take, seeing William/Spike with Drusilla. But I promise, there is a very good reason I am including all of this in the story. I'm glad you're enjoying the fic. Thanks for reviewing. :)
