Anya is delightful. I laughed out loud at her concise “I could see the appeal for using you ritually.” You've really got her down.
Spike seeking Dru out was also lovely and the meeting was poignant. He's done his part, it's up to her to stay or go. I hope he doesn't get too cut up if and when she becomes dust.

Spike's methods are going to improve Buffy's skill level, but it's ear;y days yet. I love how aware of her situation Buffy is in this. If Spike hadn't been hired, who knows whether he would have come after the new slayer. It's the fact that he would have beaten her handily that's weighing on them both. He doesn't like her vulnerability, he wants to keep her safe. They may as well face facts. Spike's okay with sticking to the shadows now, but if she's attacked the secret's out.
Again, getting Joyce into the loop is wonderful. She's so reasonable and even keeled. Sure she doesn't know Spike's a vampire, but she already likes him.
Author's Response: Yep, Spike is pushing Buffy hard, and she's still a very new Slayer. Even if Spike hasn't really thought about it, Buffy realizes how easily he could beat her, and how easily he could have beaten her if things had been different. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for reviewing!

This chapter wrapped up the Wilkins and Faith stories very neatly, and bonus points for getting the charming Anya into the mix. Angelus' cold brutality is quite chilling in this story. He's a force to be reckoned with and Darla's not far behind.
Author's Response: Glad you liked Anya! I had always intended for her to be the one to 'out' what finally happened to Faith, since she was the only one that realistically could have known. (Without one of the vampires doing a James Bond villain monologue.) And I'm glad you found Angelus chilling; I think understated evil makes him all the creepier. Thanks for reviewing!

The feeding is so intimate, and Spike just takes it naturally to the next level. There's no reason for the holding or the post-feeding cuddling, but it's all so comfortable. He's right, they do get along best when there's no talking, just existing.
Joyce being part of the loop happened organically, and it will make things much easier for Buffy. She's an adult in this story, in college, so this makes sense. She would be making her own decisions anyway, and this way Joyce will be safer.
Spike's musings were intriguing. He's not willing to define his relationship with Buffy, but neither is she. I'm sure something's going to give, but for now they're finding their way.
It's a lovely read.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! Yes, Joyce knowing just seemed to be the way to go. Buffy is in college, and doesn't need to be sneaking around. Being upfront about being the Slayer seemed like the adult thing to do, even if it was prompted by Joyce seeing a vampire. And neither Buffy or Spike are discussing their relationship. They're very comfortable with each other, emotionally and physically, but there are still so many long term issues that divide them. Thanks for reading!

Buffy's breakdown of the not so big Angelus showdown was succinct and in voice, and I was wondering how she was going to be able to keep Spike out of the conversations once the rest of the gang got a look at him. Lo and behold he makes a fun guest appearance at The Bronze and now has the lead role as Buffy's ex. The bleached ex-boyfriend is going to be a little difficult to hide forever.
Buffy's fact juggling is going to be very entertaining.

This was an excellent introduction of the new Sunnydale dynamic. I love that Spike standing up to Angelus has put Angelus off his game. This is not the same vampire that left town off in a huff. They're both powerful, and the threat on Darla is a real one.
Buffy being ignored to play a bit of catch up was very entertaining. Darla's being too confident for her own good.

Best chapter yet....which worries me about the next chapter. Usually the authors do this little thing where they have something good happen and then take it away. But hey, the angst makes this a hell of a story. My favorite parts are when Buffy is near death and Spike is panicked that he'll lose her---lets us see the gentle and tenderness of their coupling. Update soon. Very soon. :)

I've pulled B/S back and forth enough. Their internal conflict and the conflict between each other is over (well, except for one little thing at the very end), and now conflict will be external. you made me all teary eyed. I'd imagine that Buffy had not even allowed herself to contemplate even the thought of loving Spike because it would be too hard to let him go when the time came. She does not yet realize it, but she's already in love with him... Thank you for another spectacular chapter!
