Woah, didn't expect Buffy to be his step mother! I thought sister for sure...sneaky minx! Hmmm Tara getting chumy with Willow. And your hand washing reminded me of the movie the 13th Warrior where they were all spitting and snotting into the communal bowl. I so needed you in my early Europe Lit Class. Great update!
Author's Response: glad I caught you out with the twist:)
My kids have a wonderful time in Eng. Lit and history, they are doing Beowolf soon and the teacher is alredy nervous and threatening to let my 12 year old take the class:)
thanks for the review

That was quite an interesting idea Connor came up with, adding both Willow and Tara to his hall will save Tara from having to choose between them. Can't wait to find out how things progress between the three, and I'm really looking forward to William's reaction to all of this. Loved the sweet Buffy/William scene. :D Fantastic chapter!
Author's Response: I think you were the only one to pick up on that. Glad you like the chapter. more soon

I am truly becoming engrossed in both your fic and the Viking/Norse lore & history you are relating.
I'm a (perpetual...LOL) BA candidate in history, but the times I've mostly learned of kinda skirt well around the majority of the Norse/Viking heyday.
I'm a historical re-enactor here in the US (Fla.) and have worked with some living history programs, too.. Tho' nothing I have worked with for those has been earlier than the 16th c. I've also done "SCA" off & on since 1979. I learned smidgeons about Norse culture over the years, chunks when I dated hunky guys (when I was young) w/Viking "personas" in the SCA. (Now I just have my Mr, (sometimes) Frisky (for the past 16 yrs this past mo.) who sometimes comes out to play as a Welsh/Celt and sometimes Elizabethan sailor & chanteyman). Also had a best friend back when who lived & breathed Byzantine, ranting on about Verangian Guards or somesuch; and had a roomie/galpal who did Rus, Norse, etc and does incredible work (even studied Russian). So, I learned small tidbits by osmosis.
Aside note: one of my former Viking hunks (an incredible artist) decided, as we lived about 100 mi apart, that if we were to write to one another, he had to spice it up: so, he sent me on mad quests when he sent me loveletters written in runic alphabets. I had to scurry to first find what language this was, then specific "dialects (?)"...then translate, read , then reply. Then became a game of various languages/alphabets...
BTW, I spin (wool & flax quite well, actually, but not so much with short fibre cotton), but DO NOT weave (truly suck at it...); I have what is called a "travelling wheel", 19th c., and also spin both supported & not supported with a drop spindle. I've raised both sheep and goats too, of my own, along w/most farm fowl.
Mr Frisky can weave with an Inkle loom, and is a blacksmith, & can do scrimshaw and a little carving.
Anyway, it was really cool seeing your pix & all, another living historian/re-enactor, and it is really, really great seeing your knowledge and research come alive on these pages through your tale. I was afraid (as a historian-type person, myself) that I'd hate it, but I'm really enjoying it.
Oh, and 'nother aside: as a late teen/early twenties, I had the chance to visit my cousin/godmother in ICELAND, as her husband was Admiral of the US base in Keflavik---however, my mother refused to allow me to go. I am still bummed about it.

That was quick indeed. :)
For Tara it would be better if she could stay there. She is more free there, respected. (I wonder though what will she'll do regarding Willow and Connor. Torn between the two?)
Enjoyed the Solstice festivities so to say.
*googles* Wow, these rings can look very pretty! Plus the gift was handmade from William. A good gift :)
Author's Response: It would be better but honour insists she goes home:(

I'm just in awe of how much you know about this time period and it's so fascinating, Finally got around to checking out your link today - it's great to see what you look like, and in costume too. I can tell this this era is a real passion for you.
Really like this story; can't wait to read more. Very glad that your beta can beat up that nasty punctuation monster!
Author's Response: more soon I promise. I just love the Viking attitude to life, and the women's role was really special. the monster is normally well controlled, even though it causes a great deal of amusement when he's beaten up.

Interesting tidbits to the life of the past :)
Buffy was up early; the fun of being responsible for everything. Hard work for them all though.
Mmmm there is a story behind Buffy's story (being the mistress of the hall). So her life wasn't easy with Angel as her husband.
Enjoyed the read and the lesson of times gone by.
Author's Response: thanks for reviewing, yep there is a Buffy Story and you'll get bits of it here and there.

I like the way the Northman handle women having children without being married better. Seems as if women do have more rights (if they are free, that is).
Enjoyed the update :)
Author's Response: Free women had a lot more rights under Viking law than most people think possible. we lost it all, including the vote, when the Normans took over:(

Enjoying this very much so far.
My personal preference is not normally for the AU all human stories but I thought that I'd give this one a read because the time period intrigued me - so different from anything I've seen before.
The story is fascinating; you obviously know loads about this era. The little seemingly casual references that you throw in are great, I really liked William & Tara's shock at seeing the women's hair for example. Something so simple and which is taken so much for granted these days but which back then would have created such a different impression.
And you can spell and use grammar! I know it might not mean much to some people, but it's a real pet hate of mine. I've started to read other stories from new authors and just had to stop because the errors are so numerous and glaring that it spoils the story for me.
Looking forward to reading more soon.
Author's Response: thank you so much for your kind review. My spell and punctuation are atrotious, atrosious, dreadful, luckily my wonderful beta tames the punctuation monster who insists on eating every comma and full stop it can find!
Hence people can actually read my writing.
Hope you enjoy the rest. This is my favourite period in history.

A lovely description of the families greeting each other and enjoying meal time. Hmm, if Buffy is Connor's stepmother does that mean she's married to someone else? Will have to wait to find out!!
Author's Response: more soon In fact my Beta is sorting the next chapterer out as i type. thanks for the compliment. glad you enjoyed and thanks for the review
