Yep, this story has been done over and over again. Make Spike the ass while Buffy is the one who teaches him a lesson and makes him become a better man.

I might be reading this. It all depends on how terrible you make Spike. If Spike is just a total ass then the story is not for me. I for one am not interesting in seeing Spike an ass while changing his ways for Buffy.
