Willow being all supportive and sympathetic was lovely. Buffy really needs her friend right now. Joyce is still in Spike's corner, but Giles is understandably concerned. It's a good thing he doesn't know the whole story, he'd be freaking for a completely different set of reasons.

Spike's operation is worrisome. He no longer has a leash, and his violent bent isn't going away just because he's in love with Buffy. I don't know how you're going to resolve any of this, but it's very entertaining in the mean time.

I should have taken that Maury Povich show as foreshadowing, but instead the pregnacny is a big surprise. Buffy's dream was hysterical. Poor thing, not only is Spike running around with the Gem, but now she's carrying his baby. His ego is already huge, how inflated is it going to get?

Author's Response: I'm glad the pregnancy was a big surprise. :) I purposely wrote the Maury Povich thing so big and right out in the open that I knew most people would miss it as forshadowing. LOL! But like you, they would go back and slap their foreheads and say, I should have seen it coming. : )

The hospital scenes were richly detailed and very entertaining. Spike confronting the nurse, shirtless and angry, was glorious. He's got every right to be proud that it was his shirt that staunched Buffy's blood flow.

I, too, wondered about The Gem's impact on Buffy's injuries, so I was delighted you addressed just that. Spike's concern was beautifully written. His anguish and anxiety until knowing Buffy was fine kept the tension high until he finally saw her for himself.

I loved the interaction with Joyce. Even with the gang's warnings ringing in her ears, she's grateful to Spike for saving Buffy. The hug was warranted and wonderful.

Spike going under the knife with the gem on his hand makes sense, but his lack of a moral compass has me concerned about choices he's going to make in the future. Killing Parker was a huge mistake. How is he going to rein himself in during other confrontations?

Author's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter. Yes, it's going to be difficult for Spike to rein himself in. He's going to have to find a whole lot of demons to kill to get his violence in. And we know he's going to make a lot of mistakes with Buffy.

The fight was even more brutal than I imagined, Adam cutting them down without being injured at all. The urgency of Buffy bleeding out and her friends laying like litter in the street around her believably led to giving up the Gem of Amara. Spike's attack was violent and vivid. His injuries would have destroyed him down without the Gem.

His protectiveness of the Slayer will not go unnoticed. I love that Spike accidentally came across the one thing that would kill Adam, and led the soldiers a merry chase in order to get Buffy on that ambulance.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked the chapter. I did have to make the fight with Adam very brutal. They didn't beat him on the show without a little bit of strange magic. :) I thought that was too easy of a way to have it happen. :)

Great chapter and I really enjoyed the ending as well. But why do I think it's won't be all puppies and roses from now on?

Spike's plan was sound, but Buffy's reasoning was just as valid. I knew Parker's death would come back and bite Spike in the ass. I hope Adam doesn't mow through them like wet paper...

Spike and Buffy companionably watching junk on TV was fun, and Spike's pointed comments about birth control were both funny and cruel. His attempts at being caring are making Buffy's mind reel. I love the mental image of him using the duster as a bath robe, with his white legs and feet poking out. It's no wonder Buffy is constantly either angry at or lusting over the vampire. he's constantly poking at her.

Spike being so contrary is hilarious. Of course he only goes to Revello because nobody but Joyce thinks it's a good idea. Of course he doesn't just stay in the basement because Buffy tells him to. Nobody's going to push Spike around, chip or no chip.

His protectiveness toward Buffy is getting stronger. There's no way he's going to be able to keep it from the gang, but I'm sure he's going to try to hide it behind death threats and bluster. It's very amusing.

Spike throwing his lot in with the Scoobies in order to rescue Buffy will go a long way toward getting the gang to trust him. Immediately attacking Riley wasn't the smartest thing in the world, but it certainly made a point.

Spike being chipped opens the door for a real relationship with Buffy, though she's too far down the path of denial right this minute. I like that Spike isn't pulling an Angel and telling everyone that they've had sex. That kind of humiliation would be difficult to forgive. Instead he's giving Buffy comfort and telling her Giles would understand.

Author's Response: Spike respects Buffy in a way that I don't think Angel ever did. Spike sees her as an equal. Which I love. Some of that old human upbringing and the respect that he has for her are what keeps his lips sealed.

Watching the sunrise was charming, espcially Buffy scooting closer and closer. Of course she'd want to follow their date with a kiss. You've got me feeling sorry for Spike here. Buffy's spell induced romancing is just what Spike wants, but how is she going to react to her actions when the spell is broken?

I'm enjoying your lovesick Buffy. She's hysterical. I love how completely freaked out Spike is, too. His last line made me laugh out loud.

I can't see Buffy taking kindly to Spike offing Parker when the spell is gone, but I'm looking forward to how they get beyond this spell induced relationship.
