Wow... just wow... I started reading with a lot of scepticism. I am big Hornby fan myself, so I'm a little protective of his works. But you're handling this story brilliantly. It's very Hornby, but not in a copy-ing kind of way. You took on his good elements and added a lot of your own. I can't wait to read this rest of it. Very well done ^^

HA. Hilarious. Loved that part. I'm really impressed with the Spike POV, the entire thing really does sound like him. I'm already sad there's only a few chapters left for me to read.

Haha. Laughed out loud at quite a few parts, especially Xander, you nailed his voice for sure. And the conversation between Spike and Buffy was really honest, and sad for both of them. Great job!

Love it so far! High Fidelity is one of my favorite books, and movies, and I have to say I was a little worried about a Spuffy version of it. But it seems like you've done a perfect job of totally retaining Spike's character traits, as opposed to trying to make him exactly like Rob. Off to read more!

Love the take on the movie, but I don't see why Buffy and Spike should be together. I haven't heard a single thing from Buffy's side that makes me think she's good for Spike, let alone that he fits with her. Why the hell isn't she staying with a friend, instead of Riley? The only reason a girl goes to a single guy's place to stay, like this, instead of one of her gals, is that she's moving into bed with someone else. She's picked another boyfriend, even if he's just the rebound toy that gets her to her next place in life. You go stay with your brother, or a gay friend, not a guy who seems to be plenty interested in you.

Love that Oz and Willow didn't like Riley! I think Spike needs to grow up on his own and move on....he's not a relationship guy until he's willing to start changing some things about his outlook.

Author's Response: Kim - You're right. At this juncture, Buffy and Spike shouldn't be together which is why they aren't. Both Buffy and Spike have a lot of growing to do before they can get back together, and a lot of issues to work out, especially Spike. This story is supposed to be him working out those issues and eventually getting the girl in the end (who, you're right wasn't so smart in choosing to go off with Riley although I'm just following the book/movie plot pretty faithfully -- it seems twisted, but I think it makes it all the more interesting). Thank you so much for your input though, it means a lot to me!

Not a nice surprise for Spike to run into the other couples at the Bronze; made him miss Buffy even more.
And doing what seems to be the right thing isn't always right....
seems as if both Buffy and Spike are miserable.
