The whole normalcy of their banter and intimacy may not negate the awful hellish past or the trepidation of the future. But she is right. Together, they will stand up to it, all.

I like the way you reminded us of the demon within Spike. He can be the tenderest of men but there lurks the need for violence and pain. Man, is she the right girl for you!

it's heartbreaking watching spike's cautious approach to happiness, but completely in character. love how buffy turns to him for reassurance without seeming at all weak. great job with their complex and conflicting natures.

I like it that Buffy is a little uneasy about seeing her friends.. and that she wants Spike's help-especially that she wants him to stay with her..

One more chapter I think.. waiting for her /and the "friends" reaction. wonder if Xander will be his normal jerk self.. hope not. Just can't see him overjoyed that Spike is so much a part of her life after hell..

After the arduous fight to get out, Buffy's panic had me panicking, too. Of course the exploded library would seem like a trip back to Hell. It had been so long, i bet Spike had forgotten. It didn't take long to calm her down, but it's no wonder they're both on edge.

Thank goodness for the respite from the gang. Both Buffy and Spike need to get their bearings. This journey has been brutal and they're both battered and in need of some time to gather themselves. I bet that won't last long.

I loved this passage: They stood soaked in dried blood in a kitchen that had forgotten them, eating and watching each other.

Out of everything he’d experienced, this moment was definitely the most surreal.

Buffy's awe and almost fear at Spike's devotion was a bit worrisome, but I think he's right, it's just the way he's wired. To him, it was either hell on earth or hell in hell. At least in Hell, Spike had hope.

Buffy's right to be a bit panicky. She's had centuries to unlearn life. it might be a bit rocky.

You really lightened the mood with this laugh out loud funny exchange: “What if I hurt someone?”

“Just aim for Harris and all will end well.”

“Spike, get serious.”

His brows hit his hairline. “Serious as a bloody heart-attack. I’ll even help you dump the body.” Hee! Point her in the right direction, Spike!

The transition to the world they no longer feel connected with deserves a slow introduction so that they can both come to grips with what they have together in this setting. If they can endure a hell dimension, they can endure the Scoobies. Look forward to the next chapter.

So they are back in the old high school? Good thing because where they came through is no sunlight.
The world collided with experience. The vampire who had climbed into Hell was not the same one that emerged, and the woman he'd brought with him had changed beyond reproach. I hope the scoobies can acknowledge it.

It sounds good that they have a night for themselves before the others come back into their life. Hopefully the room is sun-proofed.

Glad to read you're still updating this fic! Loved the last two chapters, but especially this one. Great scenes in both: the Buffy rage-against-Larry scene was awesome, as was the last little bit about Xander. Too funny. i've been awful about reviews, but i found this fic and was rendered unable to do anything but hit 'next' everytime i reached the bottom of a page. this is wonderfully addictive writing and i'm liking the idea of them both having to adjust to the other's new maturity and wisdom, all while hanging on to their own insecurities. very insightful. am looking forward to reading more whenever your muse wants to come out to play.

Almost there now (back). Buffy is very nervous and worried. But I fear they are wrong - for the scoobies didn't that much time go by, they will be the same. And that could make it difficult.

I am enraptured by this story; however, I do not understand why Buffy has such a hard time understanding Spike's sacrifices for love after all she jumped to her death for her sister.

Author's Response: There's a great difference in jumping to her death and starving to death for centuries. Death is quick, what Spike went through is not. Buffy's not saying she wouldn't do it, but she wonders if she would have the staying power for it, is all. Death is something that's certain, but what Spike went through isn't based on certainty. That's what she couldn't understand.

What a journey! Afterall that Buffy has endured, she is still afraid of living, perhaps the undead can show her how to do it. Love how Buffy knows the depth of Spike's love and what he endured to get to her. Should the world above condemn Spike once they return, she can be strong enough to stand up to their objections and protests to him being in her life. Look forward to the next chapter, hopefully soon.

Wow..excellent chappie. This is Spike and thats how he loves. I'm so happy Buffy knows that now. Poor Buffy, she's worried about fitting in again, but Spike will help her. They better not try to get between S/B. I know Buffy won't allow that to happen.
Loved Spike's line about aiming for Xander LOL
Looks like the story is wrapping up, can't wait to see how it ends, as Spike would say. :)
