You did an excellent job describing Spike's emotional turmoil. Even while kissing her, he was waiting for a smack down. Using the grand gesture of sweeping her into his arms was an unexpected way for the romance to fall apart, and it worked very well. Her rant about the lard and lye soap was an excellent way to break the physical tension.
I'm looking forward to Buffy's musing while Spike is on his walk, she may be spouting denial to Spike, but her feelings for him are warmer than she's saying. Another sharp chapter to this entetaining tale.

I'm glad you updated. This is one of my favorite stories right now and I'm always looking for a new chapter. The Spuffy-scenes were very intense even though the old Buffy came back shortly after.
