When I read the first chapter of this story, I was slightly bothered that you seemed to be writing Spike as a thinly veiled version of James Marsters. I convinced myself that I was wrong, but from some of your comments to reviews, it appears that that's exactly what you were doing. And frankly, I'm finding it disturbing. What I find most disturbing is that you've included his child. (And the fact that it's a girl here doesn't make it any less obvious, by the way.)

This is not about me not liking real person fic. I've read quite a bit of RPF in my day. But if you want to write a fic based on JM..go ahead and do it, and label it an RPF rather than a Spike/Buffy fic. I have no problem with people liking or disliking JM's personality or choices. I'm neutral on the guy myself. But I think writing a fic that is so obviously modeled on JM, and then making his poor fatherhood a primary point of the story....I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who has interpreted your fic this way. Say what you like about his dating habits or sex partners, but leave the kid out of it, please. Not cool.

This is not a flame, and I'm not a JM apologist. You're a talented writer and I enjoy reading your fics.

Author's Response: I know that it wasn't exactly vieled what I was doing and I wasn't about to deny it when asked. There was a story there for me and I wished to explore it. What's the saying "Art imitates life"? I think writing a fic and using his name as well as his sons name would be more of an offense than using Spike and Buffy. Then it would just be straight out propaganda wouldn't it? I'm not saying how "This his how James should live his life", I'm exploring an idea. It's what I do with all my fics. Most every writer puts a little of themselves in a fic, or a little of people they know...that could be considered the same thing in way, then too, wouldn't it? But thanks for the review.

I am loving this storyline. I was reading some of your reviews and some actually stated they would stop reading because of Spike being put in such a bad light. I feel that the subject matter has hit probably a little too close to home. Facts are , some men cheat., some men feel the need to date young girls in order to get their ego's stroked or prove their virilty, or what ever crap they feed themselves to make it sound good to them.
I say don't let it bother you or stray from your original storyline.
Though I have to admit it does sound alot like James Martsters in there. No one can tell me a 43 year old man has anything in common for the long haul with some 20 year old. Been there, done that , bought the t-shirt.
